I'm intrigued because I can't find any limitation on under 18os joining. But I assume it must be there because of the bar service.

It's in the T&Cs
3.1 Individual membership is open only to individuals who are over 18 years of age.

However, I think I can guess what has occurred.

Yes, please to do tell your reasoning for what has occured:D

Hmm. Nah I'm wrong. I thought that similar to rental cars (where under 25s are often allowed with corporate contracts, but not as individuals) there was a loophole in the application process when joining as part of a corporate scheme for QF... but after checking, the forms are the same.

So I'm also curious now.

"Partner" membership?

Oh that’s something useful.. I can finally rent a car and not pay a horrendous surcharge because of age.

Not sure if there is a rule as such.

FWIW I stopped getting presents for my birthday since I was 19. (Dinner being shouted does not count as a present).

So by the time they are 25 then you think they should be providing the food & drinks for their own birthday party.:D

Most I get these days is gift cards to iTunes and bottles of wine, as far as physical presents go. I might have an electronic transfer of something though :D

And, dinner is being shouted by me tonight :p sort off…

Why does everyone think iTunes gift cards for presents these days, I heard they only come in lots of $20, $30 and $50.00 varieties; not much good when you are 25 then. :p

The Woolworths groups often have 20-50% off these, you get the points and the receiver thinks you spent more than you did on them - in sales thats a win win :D.

I wonder how the hell that works (selling a gift card at a price less than the value it can be redeemed for...)

Almost certainly when you start earning more than your parents. For my 60th I got a trip to the World Cup in the West Indies.

The retail price isn't the price the store buys it at.

Generally on Apple products the mark up is between 10-15%.

So retail might be $20.00 so Coles might be paying $17.00 for them.

Apple might want some quick sales so offer Coles or Woolworths a deal for a special promotion. at sale 50% off. so instead of the price being $17.00 it is now $8.50

I thought about this as well. I think it must basically be related to that Apple are making a killing on itunes sales. Not sure of the royalty but I suspect it is only a fraction of the sale price of a song. Also for Apps I thought Apple take a decent commission there as well.

The financial results continue to show that the app and iTunes stores basically break even… the store is there to drive device sales, not the other way around.

Indeed, I think that was the implication of what I was trying to say. If we take a hypothetical example (that means I'm making numbers up) then the itunes store sells 2 main things Songs and Apps. I think a safe guess might be that a songs involves say a 20 cent royalty (i.e. collect say 60% to 80% of the song price) and Apple takes say 40% of apps sales. That means that Apple can easily say to retailers 2 for 1 sale on iTunes cards asnd still not lose money and hence drive device sales.

And of course the 10% to 15% mark up that Bundy Bear mentioned is also included in that take that I've guessed at above. But remember the margin to the retailer is different to the gross profit that Apple might make on sales.

NB The numbers I've mentioned are an "educated" guess. So they may very well be totally wrong.

Thank christ today is over.

If I never see this annual report I've been working on for the last three weeks again I'll be very grateful. I'd like to post what I think our company's acronym stands for - but it involves the C Word, and it's the only suitable word I can think of right now which describes just how big of a so-and-so our senior executives are.

How's everyone else doing.
