The totally off-topic thread

No, it cant. The GF is the only one subject to a replay. Quite rightly in my opinion, a point of difference to the Aussie game where a GF draw results in a rematch.

Just went read the rules - and you are correct. If next weeks is a draw they start playing the extra time.

Ugh. I think I am about half recovered from Friday night...

Who is coming to Oktoberfest on Friday at the Brisbane German club?

The last grand final draw in the VFL/AFL was in 1977. In the same year there was also a draw in the Sydney rugby. Wonder if there could be a repeat this year as well?

Also, 1977 was the first year that the VFL grand final was televised live.

Now that would be spooky.

This year's AFL Grand Final was the first to be broadcast in 3D.

Woo hoo. The first 3D broadcast of the AFL and it had to be a draw.

They probably need the extra money from the new match to pay for that.

I wonder how they are handling new tickets for next week's rematch? I'd imagine there's a lot of phone lines being jammed, ticket sales booths gone bananas and for those that organised "group deals", probably on their own. Unless, the AFL is honoring everyone's ticket for the grand final rematch next week (doubt it!)

Also, suffice to say, will next week's match draw the same crowd?

According to the ABC...
ABC News said:
The AFL has announced that the replay will take place at 2:30pm (AEST) next Saturday, with tickets to go on sale to members of the competing clubs at 9:00am on Monday.
AFL members will be able to purchase tickets from 9:00am on Tuesday, with any remaining tickets to go on sale to the general public from 9:00am on Wednesday.

People can complain all they like, but they came to see a football game and a football game was seen. Good one too, in the last quarter.

If next weeks is a draw they start playing the extra time.

Which is actually against their rules (which state it keeps being replayed until they get a result). But is the sensible approach for the replay.

Hence my initial comment, which you disputed.

(which lead me to go and find how this specific instance was going to be handled)

(I think they will amend the rules during the week to allow extra time during the replay)

Agreed!!

...

You two did not obviously watch the news last night where Mr D mentioned the executive had met and decided to include extra time in next weeks game, bit more here:

I’m feeling much better this morning, err… afternoon, but yesterday was slow. Turns out I have a card from the Broadbeach Police in my letterbox to keep it down in the future :p

I got the price list this morning, I think it’s the same price again, I can book a ticket from 1PM Monday, though I think I’ll give it a miss.

The official attendance number was 100,016.

I might say that if the AFL wants to reduce the chance of a draw they could stop awarding points for missing.

The points are awarded, because, while they missed, the umpire could see what they were trying to do.

They should have brought over the party lights - that would have been AWESOME!

Yeah. The rumour going round the retirement home is that the neighbours called the police, but the police couldn’t be coughd to come, probably because it was school holidays, a Friday night, and the next day had the GF.

Can you make a noise complaint about Farnesy?

All this talk about GF rules, tickets and regulations and no discussion of the 380 flyby.

I guess that'd be on-topic
