Sorry ozbeachbabe but how hard would it be to move Bronze out of seat so couple can sit together, move another Platinum, Gold, Silver, Qantas Lounge member to business, move Bronze to recently vacated seat?

If what I am reading and hearing is correct then I believe with Altea this should be happening anyway with Proactive Onload. Altea creates a priority list for op-ups and a check-in agent should not be allowed to override priority list.

JohnK I'm only assuming MF as an NB may have been targeted because there may have been no WP's or people with higher status. Again, I don't know the circumstances of the flights(s), how full it was or how many WP's SG's QP's or PS's were onboard.

So you are pressing your assumption to be correct for the purpose of pushing your opinion strongly but also to have an unfair swing at QF for what is a non-verified situation? Doesn't seem fair.

Word to all Bronze members: your seating is definitely not guaranteed at all:!:

Also, I wonder how the pax in ozbeachbabe's story got the upgrade? For it to be an op-up, the couple would have had to request to have seats together before boarding started. Otherwise, it might have happened on board, which would then have almost nothing to do with op-ups.

My understanding is that two people in separate pnrs checked one after the other at the airport using the same SSK & got seats 4B & 8B. They obviously approached a staff member between the SSK & boarding gate about trying to get seats together.

So the WP (our AFFer) goes from 4C into J then 8B goes into 4C and thus the two people are together in 4BC. JohnK I know you'd want to know what status these two people had so I'll put you out of your misery. One was NB and the other had no status. It was not an onboard op-up.

Again I've got no idea why it happened as a) it happened down south & b) I wasn't there.

If it did happen that way then only on the premise of the information you've shared with us that 'upgrade' would've seemed justified. A WP got upgraded, not the NB or no-status member. Had the statuses been "switched" we may just have World War 0.5 again. But like you said we have no idea, really, and the rest is left to presumption (a most dangerous thing).

Pushing an opinion? Is that the same as posting an opinion? Right or wrong it is just an opinion Anat0l

JohnK, you're completely ignoring the problem I had with your initial post.

my friend who does not hold any status on any airline received an op-up from BA to premium economy. In my warped opinion mis-directed op-ups happen way too often to be called rare.

And that's BA's 'problem', not QF's!

And I'll vouch that your opinion is warped, because out of the many situations were op-ups may be required every day, you decide that an evidence bank of less than 10 (or let's say 30, shall we?) examples (possibly unverified) across multiple airlines is sufficient to say we have a major problem. Not worth dignifying.

Now who did you have to sleep with to get those as a NB? :p Congratulations nevertheless...

As an NB… you’ve just thrown all our ideas of op-ups out the window :p

Back to the drawing board.

One NB gets upgraded and this happens :D

Wow I created quite the commotion. My post was misunderstood...a clue to you all is that I was in U fare bucket. LOL.

And the mystery of me being handed Row 1 was solved too...3 people in J.

1F to WLG remains a mystery, as J is >50% I believe. I would have expected Row 3.

Yeah, they take them to Port Hedland.:p:mrgreen:
Seems like your valiant effort to take this OT thread OT again have failed Nigelinoz. So I will try a different tack-security at NZ airports.
On 16/1 both mrsdrron and I went through security at DUD and AKL.Mrsdrron always goes first. On both occasions I was told to take my Kindle out of my carryon and put it through separately. However mrsdrron had her kindle in her bag yet went through both times without anything being said.
So my question for today-Is Kiwi airport security incompetent or sexist?

Well there you go. Some people are a little too hot headed. Yours truly included, although I did put an appropriate smiley there expecting some sort of response, but I didn't have guns out a-blazing at that moment...

When it comes to 'preferential seating' in J (and to some degree even in F), there isn't much going there unlike in Y. In fact, a lot of people might not want to sit in row 1 due to less leg room. Sometimes row 1 can be blocked for bassinet positions (but single-aisle aircraft do not have bassinets).

Preferential seating in J only becomes more apparent for long-haul flights (e.g. upper deck, upper deck exit row, bassinets, mini-cabin, etc.).

I think it's more that someone wasn't paying attention. Simple. You may decide to call in incompetence - I'll leave that to you, not me.

Ah, that explains it then. I had assumed it was a carbon copy of how economy works.

Oh well, I had a good laugh reading through 3 pages of you all going at QF and each other!!

ummm, can I play the devils advocate and ask whether this discussion is a bit "on topic" for this thread? shouldn't we be focussing on the important questions like how Bundy Bear ended up in Port Hedland?:mrgreen::mrgreen:
Or how he ended up with 1000 posts :p

I'm sorry, all this moaning by JohnK about a NB getting op-up and subsequent posts sent me to sleep - not withstanding it was too on topic to be in OTT. :D

Now casting my mind back to November last year, QPNB op-up on SYD-NRT Y to Y+, then Y+ to J - on the same flight.

*fans flames*

Yeah, they take them to Port Hedland.:p:mrgreen:
Are you sure it is not Port Headland? ;) :p

once again, qf international advanced seat selection works in my favour. just nabbed 8F on 734 as an NB on a Q bucket fare, for WLG-SYD next Wednesday afternoon

But the 1K and 1F I was just handed for my flights PER-SYD and SYD-WLG is even better:!::shock::mrgreen:
And there in lies my confusion. It is not next Wednesday yet. Perhaps you will get an op-up now.

I believe I may have carnal knowledge of the AFFer in question. ;) (assuming my memory of a month ago is still kosher)

I would have been happy with my 4C and would have been none the wiser. With the op-up I was even more happy. :p

BTW I'm not concerned about the op-ups (should that be op-up) I do get, I'm concerned about the ones I don't get. :!:

...and to me this comes down to good customer service. Everyone on that flight ends up happy.

I used the SSK! I will use the SSK! I want to use the SSK! Why don't you use the SSK? It only just dawned on me that this means Self Service Kiosk. At what point in time is way too many acronyms too much?

GTA, CIK, CIQ, BDQ, ASQ, GTL, GAD, GAS, GTG, BTA, HSF, ATN, ATO. My whole airport experience in acronym assembler. No need to speak English anymore. Just use acronym assembler instead.

Better shut up now in case thewinchester falls asleep again thanks to my moaning....
