The totally off-topic thread

You’re taking what was a slightly expensive run from BNE-ISA and making it cost tons more :p

This isn't a run we're talking about - it's an experience. :)

For the length of time you stay on a train, it's probably like-on-like economics. But that's only if you can appreciate it in that way.

I could appreciate it, but don’t have the money for that. I’d have to turn around at ISA. It does look like a fun day out though. I need to visit the top of QLD too, and I see I can do that on them as well.

I was reading a thread elsewhere on "retrojets" and this suggested livery was posted..:

How awesome does that look? :D

Why do people bother to come to work when they're sick??? I don't want your germs! Sharing is NOT caring!

Giving some thought to whether I should take up a job in regional Australia for six months. It'll mean being away from partner - on the other hand it means a better job for the moment. And it'll mean I'll be halfway to WP if I commute there by QFLink weekly...
I enjoy working in regional areas-though I wouldn't go back to Dubbo.

Big thumbs up for Australia Post.

It appears that they've updated their online tracking service to do data searches for the country of origin.

So I know I have a package arriving from Hong Kong. It's still in Hong Kong somewhere, and the HK post site says "Accepted". Australia Post also tell me it's in Hong Kong as "accepted".

I can also track the journey via email from Australia Post.

Thanks AP. A great addition (Previously AP wouldn't know about a package until it actually hit our shores and entered the postal system here)

Mal, similar experience here with AP and their Tracker system. I'm about to get fair up the Irish Embassy

I have some DVDs on their way from Amazon Japan...

Shipping with DHL, they have left Tokyo, arrived Hong Kong, left Hong Kong, arrived Singapore. Are the DHL guys fitting in a mileage run?

AAARGH!

I've been waiting 6 weeks for AirNZ to process my points from my trip to the US - they claimed to be having IT problems. Finally got sick of waiting, contacted them again as I want to book a partner flight and thus want to do ASAP... and now they are telling me that I can't have points as "you creditted them to United and you can't get twice". As far as I can tell, when I have used my United Red Carpet Club card to access Koru Club they have managed to switch the listed FF point number, despite me booking and checking in with AirNZ number AND asking at each Koru Club entry for them to ensure that the AirNZ number is used for points.

I emailed Customer Service back stating that I felt this was entirely unacceptable since I requested AirNZ points earning at every stage of my journey - booking, checkin and at both Koru Clubs - and requesting that even if they cannot reverse the credit to United that they grant me the 15 Airpoints I need for the redemption flight I have been trying to secure. I think (hope) that this is a reasonable request... I guess we wait and see. Certainly has me motivated to close my AirNZ account after redeeming; not the first problems with them - $100 booking fee for a partner redemption (and possibly taxes also on top of that?), difficult to redeem anything of value from WA, and a "upgrade voucher" for Silver a couple of years ago that never eventuated. This was a paid Y+ booking and to have the points go to a FF program I don't use and didn't consent to points being allocated to really gets my goat!

Sorry, needed to rant to people who understand the importance of FF points going where they are supposed to!

Frustrating I will agree. FF number switching can be an icky process...

I'm still waiting on Velocity to credit me my points on my MH flight I took on 6 Feb and then put in a manual claim on 7 Mar. Up to 24 working days now with nothing.... still, their website does say to wait between 4 and 12 weeks, so I shall wait.

I didn't even switch numbers... NZ flight booked on NZ website logged in with NZ FF number! The only bit they got to see the UA FF number for was when I got into the Koru Club - at which point it required 5 mins of them mucking about with their system and each time I pointedly stated that I did not want the UA number listed against the booking and I wanted the NZ points in my NZ account.

Might have been worthwhile starting this as a new thread, because this is too on-topic for OTT.

Serious suggestion, get onto twitter and ask the NZ Airpoints Fairy to grant your wish. As bizzare as it might sound, the AirNZ person behind this account grants at least one airpoints wish a day, and seems to have the power to fix problems. Last wish granted was 44 airpoints, and this week the largest grant is 66 airpoints for one person, plus a gold fast track for another.

Make your succinct case to the fairy, and they might be able to grant your wish faster than a complaint and/or follow-up.

Thanks thewinchester, thats great! I had forgotten about the Airpoints fairy...

I will try to stay on-topic of being off-topic ;) Had a great time in KL for F1, even AirAsia wasn't as bad as expected :p Particularly enjoyed the boarding call for "Premium passengers, those needing assistance, those travelling with small children and those over 65 years old" at which point all in the departure gate bar about 10 people surged forward. Not entire sure of the need to rush for the assigned seats  but when I ventured out to board there was a massive queue across the tarmac. Thankfully AirAsia were boarding through 2 doors and us 'Premium' passengers could board immediately as the plebs at the other door queued :p

On another random aside, for those who have an interest in F1, Bernie Ecclestone is even shorter in real life!

Compared to the evil Bernie-demon in my head  And also appearance in pics and on TV. Not helped by his ladyfriend being a good 5 inches taller and then wearing 4 inch heels!

Rant time.My dear departed MIL got the batts in the roof on the government. After the deaths and fires a government inspector inspected the roof and said everything was fine.About april last year the bureaucrats got in touch and said you had better make a time to get the roof inspected as the program is closing.I rang and they had no knowledge of the first inspection-so a second was done.Told everything fine.
So now the unit is on the market.Got a pest inspection.Told no pests but the roofs a mess. Why?There is this whole pile of batts in the middle of the roof.So 2 inspectors appointed by the Government didn't notice this?
