The totally off-topic thread

I've just had a most unsettling experience and I feel the need to share it with someone.
I was sitting here in my workshop working on a clients computer (replacing a faulty hard drive) had the television on low in the background when an ad that I had never seen before came on and I started watching,it's an ad for the Surf Lifesaving Association,as I said I haven't seen it before but I was transfixed by the incredibly powerful images and the haunting piano music, then for no reason I burst into tears which for a 50 year old man is rather unsettling.
Has anyone else seen this commercial ? It's absolutely stunning.

It's been aired in Qld for a while. I agree, it's a powerful ad

They should so it on all arriving international flights, with subtitles saying "see what happens when you swim between the flags".

Strange that I had not seen it before but I don't really watch much tv and when I do it's usually the Discovery Channel so maybe I just wasn't watching the right channel, but it certainly made a deep impression on me which I guess is the whole point of the campaign.
I think it's quite brilliant ,if it was done by an ad agency then they deserve an award for it in my opinion.

It raises the hairs on my body evey time I hear the music and the images are powerful nigelinoz - as I am a former lifesaver (Coolum). One of my regular donations every month and I have them in my Will to buy new gear. One of the best things I ever did.

I commend your emotional reaction...

Oh well, each to their own,it would be a boring world if everyone like the same things.

Seeing the advert I don't have much reaction, but it has made me stop and think., clever advert, very well done.

Definitely boring place if we had the same dislikes as well. :p:lol:

Maybe not as boring as you think.

If everyone liked the same things then perhaps everyone thinks the same way as well which means that my life out in public would be way much simpler. ;)

Utopia! Where everyone likes the same things....

I'm nowhere near 50 but this ad had the same effect on me Nigelinoz, mind you so does the QF 1998 ad with the choir singing "I Still Call Australia home". I guess we ogres are big softies. Thankyou for sharing :)

Have to agree with Princess Fiona, there are ads that touch me emotionally as well and the QF ones have always done that.

Like Tiger *ugh* no thanks. Almost same feeling for JQ (I think JohnK will agree with me here, as well as others). Vegetables - love them all. Just don't go serving me kidney, liver, tongue, tripe, etc - they get left on the plate or go straight back (or straight up :o)

Mostly I agree with you but you can't make a good steak and kidney pie without lamb's kidney,it adds lots of flavour.
My mum used to make the best steak and kidney pie-but I guess we all say that :!:
