Glad to see its not a purely surgical problem, drron! I don't understand why patients say 2 days beforehand that they are coming to an appointment then fail to show - the new patients that do show up are usually the ones who have forgotten why the GP referred them (sore knee 3 years ago, stopped hurting a week after referral etc) or think they are there for something else ("Why are you talking about my hip, I'm here for my bowels?" "Erm, I can promise you I don't operate on bowels, madam...")

We recently had a new consultant start to relieve the waitlist and in his 12-15 new patient clinics we would see on average 30-60% no-shows. I think the best effort was a total of 2 patients for us 2 doctors - but typically one will be the first timeslot and the other will be the last appointment of the day! No early finish :( Especially not for the junior doc who can't leave before the boss...

On a very different tangent - I am not sure picking a hotel based on their icecream is the best thing for my waistline. ;) Movenpick icecream (double cream and meringue flavour) at the Movenpick hotel Amsterdam - highly recommended!

My lucky day!
Supposedly a young lady called Jane is going to give me an Audi.

Hello Ron,
Congratulations! You have just been nominated to be our possible winner!
We are happy to announce that you are one of our lucky three selected to win an AUDI A3: Audi A3 valued at $45.000 AUD:

At least the email isn't from Nigeria.

Well at least we all have a chance at winning, as the page informs me in one place:

"You are still within the deadline: 20/8/2011 at 08:19 today" (ie. Now);

and in another:

"The deadline for registration is 30/06/2012 at 24:00 hours."

Lucky I got there in time!

That sure would persuade me to stay there ! :D

Hmmm... Has a certain member been elevated above our station?

I keep seeing references to "His Majesty" or "Sir" prior to his name ;)

Congratulations mrs.dr.ron - I hope he bought you something nice and expensive. Maybe he could give you the Audi?:rolleyes::lol:

Re: waiting lists, we seem to average a 15-30% "no-show" and again, a large % of those have been contacted within the week prior and say they're coming. So all the lists now get over-booked by 25%, and we are at or about the numbers most of the time. On the odd occasion they all show up, everyone gets cranky about having to wait (on the day). Lose-lose.

We are now in the QF BNE J lounge awaiting our delayed () flight to MEL. They have just said the 1100 flight will go at approx 1230 but no idea of when our midday flight might go :!:
Boarding at 1240, so just on one hour late.

Delusions of Grandeur have been known to occur at AFF , including those driving one.

On the other hand I now book 13 new Medical patients per day so I am glad I have never had 100% turn up.

Aha! Overbooking in the medical Field, just like the Airlines.

Do you guys have a standard IDC¹ compensation process?

¹ Involuntarily Denied Consultation

I get the feeling they just send them off for an x-ray; any xray will do even a CT if they are really lucky. Constipation? What you need is an ankle xray.

The last thing I would want is a radiologist managing my constipation

The radiologist manages the imaging requests from other doctors. They don't make the requests and they don't decide that constipation needs an ankle xray. My mistake if that was the implication of my post, certainly not my intention.

No, no I get that - I should have used a ;) rather than an

Medical professionals have sometimes been known to stray from their particular field of expertise, and provide an opinion/intervention in an area that they perhaps may not have recent experience in, since their residency/HMO days.

Therefore, it is quite reasonable that a radiologist might decide that a finger and some KY is all that is needed, for said broken ankle.

In fact, I once saw a urologist 'having a go' at intubating a patient, until someone suggested that he was perhaps at the wrong end ;)

I dunno, guys, we could be on to something.... having one of my radiologist colleagues managing anything remotely medical would certainly scare the poo out of me  Potentially a very cost-effective constipation treatment programme!

Oh, and mrs.dr.ron - the hotel bar will do a SEVEN-scoop Movenpick sundae for 18 euro... we have be restrained thus far but 2 more nights here

Thought I would try JQ for once...

Walked in to find my flight cancelled. Wait 30mins and we will get back to you.

Told we are being bussed to brisbane, join the queue.

Told we are being put on Virgin Australia. Come back at 8am.

3 seats left on that aircraft, I don't see Jetstar getting me on the next Virgin flight.

Sitting in the JQ lounge now, had to have a mini fight with the dragon to get in.

So your flying on Virgin now?

Yes.

Sorry, can't come in.

Why? We paid for a JQ flight, and paid for the Lounge.

Sorry Can't come in.

Liam: *Says to myself* Wonder what Joyce will think of this might call him now.

Oh, come on in and wait for a while then.

Liam. Cheeky Grin.

Going to be a long day.

Thought I would try JQ for once....

You've tried them before.... this isn't the first time....

Not good on anyone's books, but did they give a reason for the cancellation / did you get some more advance notice?

Some of us hope, pray, that day never comes.

Is that the only alternative? Where were you going?

The Mexicans tend to load up the southern flights of a Sunday as they head back to chill.

JQ cancel flights daily ex BNE. Today it was BNE/MEL flight but there could've been others as well. Last night it was MKY & only 8 seats left on QF so some pax sent on QF to TSV in the evening, others had to overnight in BNE & flew QF to MKY this morning. I'm sure there were several flights affected ie cancelled either into or out of OOL or MCY as pax were put on a bus to BNE to fly out from there.

They also have a nasty habit of telling people what flight they will be on however pax always invariably arrive at that airline's checkin prior to the reservations being made, then get snakey at that airline for not having the booking.

A friend just got back from Bali via DRW & said JQ cancelled a DPS/SYD flight the day they flew out & when they asked the checkin guy why he said "personnel" which I interpret as lack of crew.

JQ right now are making Tiger look good.

Seriously folks, if you have any important events coming up I would think very carefully with whom you choose to fly.
