The totally off-topic thread

I've commented about this before, but why not comment again:

Australian media is cough. They don't even realise what they are doing. I don't need to have 30 minute updates on "Maddie", nor do I want to hear street-stop media interviews with her. She was the victim of a crime and deserves her peace and quiet. The media even reports on how she is handling things well "despite the media camping at her door"

I also don't need to hear the name of the accused (Wow presumption of innocence never exists), and it saddens me to hear that he will be in jail in the US for ~60 days before he is extradited to Australia for yet another period of time before being heard.

Left hand is not talking to the right hand at QFlink Mackay, they have just tried to board a F100 while it was doing an engine test on the bay!

And the sad part about dentists fees in Australia is that it would be much cheaper to pay for airfares, accommodation and get major dental work done in Thailand. And I believe the quality in Thailand is just as good if not better....

I feel your (hip pocket) pain, my daughter goes in for $2.5K of work on Friday :(

I got that the other week:

Receptionist: So how did you go today?
Me: I'm great! no pain can't feel a thing! Shame I can't say the same for what you're about to do to my wallet.
Receptionist: *polite smile and quiet laugh* "So that's just $495 for today..."

*must learn to look after teeth*

I still have at least 2 crowns and another 1-2 root canals left (as well as the remainder of the fillings he hasn't yet finished). My Private health has almost stopped paying out (hit limits; again).

I promise to look after my teeth (this time I mean it!)

You want to know what really hurts? My daughter is 5. We have looked after her teeth (OK, except that she's only just seen the dentist for the first time, but we got high fives for how well we've kept her teeth clean). Only problem is she has "chalky enamel" on her back teeth which means that don't protect the teeth as well as they should ... so she needs protective crowns on them ... I cry when I think what I could buy for the near $3K it's going to cost us.

That's why I love my dentist (and hygenist and dental nurses ). They have a good look every year and tell me to go away (nicely of course :D). Still have yet to have a filling (and only 1 root canal done 25 years ago).

5! She can't even have real teeth yet surely? Well at least not at the back. My 7 yo is only now losing the back teeth.

Yep, they are all baby teeth. But they all have small amounts of decay on the chewing surface (impossible to see unless she's in a dentist's chair with a spotlight shining on them), and there is a real risk of decay getting through to the adult teeth underneath :(

That next lunch I said i'd get? Yeah I changed my mind. You're buying it now :p

I hate people like you :P heh

Ah yes. I totally forgot. my older child had that and got a filling from memory. sorry I totally forgot about that risk to the real teeth.

This proves that dentists were geniuses for staying out of Medicare.

Or proves that doctors arent.

Yeah well I'd love to know why dentists aren't covered under medicare. From what I've read Australia has some of the worst dental health in the developed world, hardly surprising considering what it costs just to walk into a dentist's office!

Feeling a little strange. Just waved goodbye to my car of 5 years and some 9 odd months. A little tinge of regret, but then again, the new car will be here next week (apparently so if the car yard is to be believed) so that will make me feel better.

I'm used to trading a car in. Instant gratification of new vehicle, whilst a slightly sad parting with the old.

It really is a weird feeling seeing someone drive off down the street in 'your' car :S

That's alright, I'm sure you'll enjoy your new car: 2061110.005.1M.jpg

My sister is a dentist and I reckon she should be able to hook me up with some cheap dentistry.

Still, even at mates rates, it doesn't come cheap. I spent $2.5k on an implant. Could be worse, mind you.

The other thing too that my sister told me (and it is really true) is that treatments all have a duration. That filling may not last forever, even if you take really good care of your teeth. Then again, there's hardly anything in medical that is a surefire permanent fix to a problem.
