The totally off-topic thread

Umm to post this here or not. Certainly not worth a new thread.

Virgin are quickly losing me. Yep I get row 3 consistently. But I'm slightly annoyed to see 2 velocity golds, with QF NG tags as well, get an empty middle seat in D and F. Whereas as a DJ Plat I have a non status flyer in 3B. Will see if the CS does anything but this guy doesn't have a habit of doing anything for me.

That is annoying.

But I see the same problem on QF.

Plus - I'm convinced that I never have a shadow - and when I benefit from one, it's actually the shadow of the guy in 4A (I like 4C).

I was provably most annoyed as the guy was a leg spreader and arm rest hogger. There were at least a dozen empty middle seats elsewhere including the exit row. Having now got off the flight I have more whinges, like being the only one in the first 5 rows asked if I wish to purchase something from the menu, with a number of coffees served with no cash being collected and I didn't notice any flexi meals being served. But that is really nothing.

Most annoying was the Y pax being held for about a minute after J pax were allowed to disembark. The flight was 20 minutes late already, so it added insult to injury.

I'm convinced of the same with qantas re a shadow

I've had this recently too and thought "what the?". Next time it happens I'll ask why. I understand blocking the aisle to enable J pax to disembark first, but do we really need to wait for them to be at the top of the aerobridge before the rest of us can get off?

Heavens!

When I'm out and about I rarely have a conversation longer than 3-4 minutes and make a point of keeping it quiet. Anything longer than that should be either dealt with in person or when you're at the office/home.

That isn't always practical. The keeping it short rather than quiet I mean. Often the only time I can speak to someone is from the airport. The alternative is to wait until I land and do it from the car or home - by which time they should be home with their families.

Personally I don't see a difference between a loud phone conversation and a loud face to face conversation in the lounge. I still struggle with he angst that mobiles cause people. Two hours on public transport every day reminds me that there are a lot worse problems travelling than mobile phones...

The funny thing is I was on a non converted 737 last week in row 3 with empty rows 1 and 2 and the FA blocked between row 3 and 4. I thought it was strange, but nice, but now I see why.

Anyway, I've only got 5 more flights this year before a break. So hopefully the whinges will be at a minimum

I hardly ever have a shadow as a WP. In fact, I'm more in the camp that it rarely exists.

My theory (and seeing as there is a thread about this, I might be out of place with these thoughts) is that the approximate load is used to determine whether seat blocks for some WPs are enabled when they can select seats.

Once OLCI gets into final stages, depending on the load almost all of the middle seats open up to anyone. Mostly to be taken by those unfortunate enough to only get a middle seat, but if it were up to me and exit row were not an option, I'd take the most forward row I could, even if middle seat.

If I have ever had a spare middle, I usually believe it is because someone did not select that seat much more than it is blocked for me. But most flights I am on it is so busy that there are only a spotting of spare seats (if any), and in this case I believe that the OLCI would've allowed full slather of the remaining seats for anyone else.

I've had heaps of shadows sitting in a JQ exit row.....suspect it has more to do with the extra $$$ it cost to sit in a JQ exit row.

The only shadows I've had on QF is when my work colleagues have failed to make the bus after entertaining clients for the night/weekend:cool:

Ah, I noticed this happen just recently myself and I asked the FA - apparently they let J pax off, then wait for the rear airstairs to be connected before letting Y pax off. Or something.

I still dont know why they delay the front door until the rear door is ready??

It's strange. I overheard one FA telling someone it was to keep weight in the front to prevent the aircraft tail being hitting the ground. An answer that seems totally preposterous for something like a 737 as I wonder how qantas manages to unload from the front first. In fact the only time I've heard this was for a metroliner full of TV camera gear and we were asked to allow pax at the rear to disembark first.

PER in a little bit of chaos this morning, Wx related. Nothing gone since ~7am local. QP must be an interesting place right now

Flying out on the red-eye tonight, hopefully all is well by then...

What can happen is if QF flow forward pax where they use the 'force transfer' option that will override the Altea theoretical seating hence there may have previously been a WP shadow on 4B that will suddenly end up a non-status pax in it.

There are a lot of variables such as pax in row 4 doing ODU's or maybe getting an earlier flight that will free up seats & when that happens there's a chance non status pax end up there in those seats if they happen to checkin around the same time. If a WP has already done OLCI or prereserved a seat Altea does not change them to row 4.

Didn't you guys have an earthquake over there today?

A QF Engineer explained to me once that occasionally they will ask baggage handlers to hold off unloading the forward cargo (where priority bags are usually loaded) until they have unloaded some of the freight/bags from the rear. I don't think this is the main reason for the whole priority bag issue not working always as if it was that much of a problem they'd reassess where they loaded them ie load them in a rear cargo hold.

The International airport did have a gas leak! Nightmare.

Had family was stuck on the aircraft in PER for a good 4 hours, apparently crew ran out of hours. They got away about an hour ago in a break of the weather. It is back now though. Did laugh at someone's facebook status saying they'd never fly Qantas again because Virgin were leaving...not sure what they're seeing, because all I am seeing is cancelled flights.

By the way ozbeachbabe (and anyone else who would like to answer)...

Why is one of QF's shiny new A332's operating 792 PER-DRW today?

Does anyone still post out Christmas Cards, you know the ones where you actually buy them or are given a pack of them and then go to the post office and actually post them. Well thought I should send out a few.

Email, PM and a whole bunch of websites are out there where you can add your Christmas greetings, but to actually write out one takes a bit more time and money.

I do, though I always leave it to the last minute. PITA addressing them, but it's nice to keep a little contact with people that way.

Now if I was still in DRW I could probably tell you however in BrisVegas so in other words I have absolutely no idea!

I think they had an A330 last year DRW/PER when a 737 was in for maintenance & they have had 767s on that run in school hols when heaps of people fly DRW/PER.

Ahh ok no worries!

For the first time ever weather has cancelled my flights. Had plenty of delays but never a cancellation...

Anyway, off tomorrow morning via SYD instead of MEL.

Does a shadow really exist? Yet to be convinced but if it does exist then I believe I have never had one and only ever benefitted from someone's else shadow.

By the way this is now a little too on-topic for this thread....
