Out on the patio we’d sit,
And the humidity we’d breathe,
We’d watch the lightning crack over canefields
Laugh and think, this is Australia.

Well it's about to tip over to 40 degrees here in WA, and the a/c has been running since 0900.

Air conditioner demand has put a real strain on the states power network, with over 1000MW (1/4 of current daily consumption levels) is being used on a/c according to Western Power. This is thanks mainly to lightweights who keep their systems running at full tilt and super-cold temps for the whole day.

Still better to be 40 degrees in an oven compared to 30 degrees in a sauna.

Yep, I find 40 to be sort of ok these days, but 26 in a humid Sydney and I die. It starts to get really hot at about 45, when the road starts to melt.

Well I rarely put the ac on these days, maybe at night for a bit. On days like today in Perth where it is 40 degrees I just grab a beer and head for the pool.

I'm not sure if there's any advertising over in WA, but in QLD the State Government and Energex have been putting ads on Television about "Peak Demand".

Electricity demand in SEQ - Queensland Energy - ENERGEX

I usually make a habbit of turning off my A/C around 4pm.

Very interesting article about the changing of the US economy in regards to the way it has effected Apple from the New York Times.

How the U.S. Lost Out on iPhone Work

I don't know of any western company who could get their workers out of bed at midnight to make Iphones because a shipment of glass arrived.

A very interesting article Bevan, thanks for posting the link, some of the readers comments make interesting reading too,
particularly the one which says that the only things the US makes these days are automobiles and aircraft, the way Ford
and Boeing are travelling at the moment they may not be doing that for much longer either:!:

On the contrary I think you will find that the "One World, One Ford" strategy will soon launch Ford back into the limelight and highlight their capability to be the number 2 manufacturer in the world.

In addition, I think Boeing have got the concept of the Dreamliner right and they will clean up with this product. The will start to build more and more parts in the US so that they have more control. No doubt helped by job subsidies from the government.

Really?Maybe ask Alan Joyce what he thinks then.I mean they were promised deliveries in 2008,2009,2011,2012 and now it seems they
may get some in 2013,I had high hopes for the 787 but the aircraft Boeing has struggled to deliver is far from likely to set the aviation
world on fire without significant redesign, and that's not my view,it's the view of people with much better qualifications than me.

The design might not be perfect but the concept is right. Even if it takes 5 years from the time of consistent deliveries to near perfect design they will still have a 10 year head start on EADS.

By that time Boeing would be a financial basket case ,most likely in Chapter 11.

Congress will never allow that.

Well we will have to agree to disagree on that, and that "near perfect design" you speak of is a long ,long, long way away from the overweight, poor fuel
efficient aircraft Boeing is struggling to produce at the moment, that is to say nothing about the 748 which is turning into a nightmare for Boeing.
Have a read of Jon Ostrowers Flightblogger site and you will see that it's not just me who thinks Boeing has some serious times ahead.

Well your link questioned the upcoming Boeing financials-actually they turned out pretty good-
747-8F, 787 deliveries propel Boeing

Anyway who cares.A great Australia day.Just farewelled our guests.$ fellows managed to polish off a bottle of Stonier 2000 Pinot noir,a 1990 Tahbilk shiraz,a 1994 Petaluma Coonawarra and a 1999 bottle of Tahbilk cabernet merlot.Pleased to say all drinking very well.
And now its good night from me.

Sampling my recent batches of home brew. One of the lagers turned out well, nice bubbles and decent head retention. In fact it formed a nice creamy head and maintained it. Shame the other lager is not so good, decent small constant bubbles but no head retention. Maybe a bit more bottle time is needed.

Quiet all of you! Rainy day stuck here at work in London :(
