You should be well and truly home now Flashware. Hope the Lounge sheltered you from the great unwashed

Sitting in the SN lounge in BRU at the moment. There seems to be a few lounges in B terminal, but this one is the closest to the gate. Unlike the Sunrise lounge I used on the way out (which is for the African flights) this one will only let me have 1 wifi code (e.g. 1 hour)! Boo! They didn't have showers either, but we were allowed to head down the corridor to the Diamond Lounge and use the shower there. The shower reminded me of a hostel shower as you have to push the button every 20 seconds or so.

Too tired to care and can't be bothered going to find the other one! I'll have a Leffe Blonde I think! Almost home....

Ahh, the joys of travelling, wish I was home myself instead of enjoying a NZ SB in the J lounge while watching flightradar24! Might have to have a NPPP hunt soon.

I can't even begin to tell you how good it is to be back on a low latency connection!

I hear you, should try Optus in DRW, it was enough to make me run out and buy a telstra modem.

You should try satellite in the middle of Africa :D Ah, the things we take for granted in the 1st world!

I think it might have been better , not to worry, the NBN will save us with its 12mbs speeds in 10 years time.

Thought I'd see what the PP lounge was here, turns out it is the diamond lounge I popped into before for a shower.

Website says Wifi is available, but subject to payment. Damnit!

Oh that reminds me, lounge is closed for 6 weeks for renovations so out with the great unwashed it was! No aircon, but it wasn't too warm luckily.

Ahhh... feels just like Franco-Germanic Europe :)

Eh, sometimes the difference between "the lounge" and the unwashed is a wall.

In the old days, that was good enough. Then they had to add some drinks.

Then they had to add some nibbles.

Then they had to add some (real) food.

Then they had to put a TV in.

You know where this is going... ;)

In the case of CKY and ROB, the difference is aircon!

And a pancake machine, or in the case of the MEL QP - 2!

In other travel news, I'm looking forward to Monday. It'll probably be the last time I'll be able to fly so well for a long time.

On the other hand, I've a couple of doozy connections coming up. I have a 65 minute connection between SYD-BKK and BKK-ICN (TG to OZ), then a 75 minute connection between ICN-FRA and FRA-LCY (OZ to LH). Should be fun....

Posting from my new phone. :)
Most everything has restored nicely, a few pics missing & some contacts, but pretty good as I backed up ~ 42hrs before the phone got water damaged. Just got to figure out the best way to back up contacts.

On the subject of air travel tonight I downloaded an episode of Air Crash Investigation and I have to say it has to be one of the
most harrowing episodes I have seen, deals with the crash of Nigerian Airways flight 2120 operated by Nationair that crashed and burned
in Jeddah in 1991.
I realise of course that it's dramatized but it really is one of the most horrible accidents I have seen portrayed on ACI.

Was emailed today advising that my travel insurance claim for air Australia collapse was approved.

No real bonus. Just meant i was reimbursed the difference between air Australia j and virgin Australia j less excess...

Sent from my GT-I9100 using AustFreqFly

Somewhat delayed response, sorry - have been mucking about in the Abu Dhabi Desert on a helicopter for the past week so no internet...

Okie dokie.... situation analysis:

Code:
09APR BNE-SYD DJ 920 d 0730 a 0905
09APR SYD-BKK TG 472 d 1555 a 2215

Got this coming up next Monday. It's a 6 h 50 min gap between arriving in SYD then departing to BKK. No transfer service for me since DJ and TG won't allow me to check-through and use the bus. So I gotta collect my luggage then train it to T1.

Recommend:
Get off DJ flight and retrieve luggage.
Go up one level on the escalator to the departures level, walk out the exit, up the ramp on the left into the "Premium Entry" to the Virgin lounge (as you have Plat/any time access). There is a separate security screening also, so your luggage should be okay to go through with you into the lounge. You just need to flash your VA FF card for entry, and refuse their kind offers to check you in... I would imagine that even if your suitcase is large it will still be okay to get thru the XRay machine, and since it's separate to the security points with huge queues that occur elsewhere, if by chance it's too big they might either hold your bag for you or screen it by hand. You can kill as much time as required in the VA lounge then head to INT at T -3.

The VA anytime access and Premium entry/security is a godsend when commuting PER-SYD-WGA when the travel office has a love for booking me onto Rex - although I've heard rumours of a Rex lounge I'm yet to see it!

EDIT: Obviously this would be flawed if you are travelling with something sharp that might upset security... in which case, is there a left luggage facility anywhere at SYD DOM?

Son returned home last night...FRA-SIN-SYD. His outward flights were Sydney to Melbourne to Singapore to Ho Chi Min City to Kiev to London. About 43 hrs journey but he was relating to me the landing in snow in Kiev and how he had to rush from one terminal to another in snow for Kiev to London flight. Anyway...some other bits and pieces got me to check Internet to find this:

One says:

In Ukraine and Russia, a good landing is one after which all the people can walk off the plane. A great landing is one after which they can use the plane again.

Another says:

Nice, but wrong! A good landing is where everyone claps - a great landing is where nobody claps because they don't realise the plane is already on the ground.

The Rex lounge is at gate 47 in T2,there is also one in Adelaide and Melbourne but it costs $299 a year so unless you travel Rex really often it's probably hard to
justify the outlay.
