mrs.dr.ron, which point - the shopping, flying or the tasting menu on the A380? ;) [I hasten to add that I believe the answer is all 3]...

What's to do in Puerto Rico?

Wander around Old San Juan - there's a lot to eat there and Puerto Rican cuisine is interesting. There are lots of late night bars too. Old San Juan is historically significant, and the University is fun to wander around too - lots of murals on walls.

I'm going to need lessons in carry on only from a wise female in this group. I can't even think about a week away without allowing for four pairs of shoes to start with. One pair of shoes would be unfathomable (as is buying while away - I have huge feet).
Oh, and no black allowed at all.

Is carry on only possible for someone like me????

Yes Katie, you and I are very alike.
Believe it or not it is possible, two pairs of heels ( one worn, one packed), three pairs of ballet flats, Havianas for the pool.
All clothing is rolled and packed in a space bag.
My cosmolite is packed solid and doesn't contain anything I need inflight.
This is the first time I've ever attempted carry-on and apart from the LAG's it was surprisingly easy :)

Ahh... I love those scammers who call trying to pretend they're IT support. Yes, it looks like it's in London too. He started his spiel and I simply said "OK, so .. I know this is a scam, I'm an IT Consultant" and he hung up before I even finished my sentence

I didn't think that anyone could make a device sync and content manager worse than Apple and iTunes.

Looks like I was wrong. Bl**dy Samsung Kies...absolutely sucks and runs at the speed of a snail in Antarctica. If Kies were a human being I'd be running towards it at full speed to deliver it several kicks to the backside with my steel capped boots.

Surely there must be some form of intelligent IT life out there who can design such a program that achieves exactly what it needs to do without having to consume 60-95% of your system resources and without crashing. A program like this can't be that difficult.

Well Katie, I am no expert, and I have only done carry on ONCE - but it was our recent trip to Singapore. What I did was stick to a colour scheme - in my case blue. I took a navy and white sportscraft skirt, a pale blue, pink and white skirt, and a blue, black and white skirt I wore. All are "uncrushable" and great for travelling. I knew we were going to at least 3 good restaurants and these last two skirts would be ideal. I took a couple of T shirts ( white and navy ) and I took 3 tops that go with either of the 2 good skirts. Enough underwear, a nightie, limited toiletries and limited makeup.( I use mineral makeup - so no liquids there)My curling wand, chargers for all the things that need it, NO hairdryer - I always use the one in the hotel. Two pairs of shoes ! One black flatish pair that are super comfortable, and a navy low wedge, both I know I can wear all day and walk in. I wore my black cardi on the plane both ways and did not need it in Singapore. My bag weighed 5.9kg and I had room left. I rolled my clothes, and I love zip loc bags, and use them alot when packing. The thing is you usually take too much stuff on a trip, but with this trip to Singapore I think I got it just about right. Luckily it was a constant temperature and I didnt need bulky warm clothing. This was a shopping /eating/ chill out trip - and we bought a set of Antler Liquis luggage ( which we filled for the return journey !!!)

So good luck, do a couple of trial packings - and you DONT need 4 pairs of shoes !!

Ann

I don't think you should leave so many pairs of shoes behind.....don't they get lonely when the user travels without them??

I see no advantage in carry-on only and I am not going to put myself under that much stress trying to limit what I take or don't take with me. Most airlines allow 23kg checked luggage so I will make the most of that allowance....

That's usually what I do. I am limited to carry-on with this trip due to a very complicated itinerary with some tight connections

Thanks for the tips, Mrs DrRon. :) I think my bigger issue is my shoes - not the number, but that I have no single pair of shoes that I could wear day in, day out on a trip. I probably need to spend some time with the lady at Children of the Revolution in Brisbane getting some even better shoes.
And my carryon would also need to have laptop, power pack, iPad in it. Minimum essential tech for me. :D

For me traveling with carry on gives me a bit of my life back. Last Thursday I landed at SYD International at 05:05 and was in the Domestic J lounge at 05:35. I managed to get a flight back to MEL an hour earlier. Doesn't sound a lot but it soon adds up.

My tech goes into an STM Revolution backpack. (MacBook Air 11", iPad, chargers and adapters, camera, Lifetron back up batteries, Headphones, cables, multiple other spare batteries, hard drive and thumb drives, mouse, and wireless router.......and whatever else I seem to buy duty free on the plane!!!!!!) Clothes, shoes and LAG's go in the rollaboard!

Apologies for being on topic....unusually! :p

My technology wouldn't go in a carry on if it's a pleasure trip, let alone clothes.

As a matter of fact, I'll be packing next week, I'm going to lay all my electrical devices on the table and photograph them. Admittedly this will be a full-family long haul 3 week trip. Mrs VC will prolly take half a shoe store...
