As an international jetsetting DYKWIA I always like to offer up tips after my travels and today I'd like to help out The City of Perth, it's restaurants, and of course QF. :)

1. On most of my travels I see lots of taxis waiting, at the airport, to take pax on their way to their final destination. At Perth I noticed that it seems to work the other way around, lots, and lots, oooh and lots, and if i recal flippin' lots of pax waiting for what seemed like one taxi. Whilst I like nothing more than a good queue I think it might be better to have a few more taxis. That way pax would not have to wait three months to get into the city. (Just a thought!)*

2. Restaurants in Perth, here is a thought, you don't have to close at 9.00 PM. There really are people who have battled to get from the airport to dine and are willing to spend $3.95 each...or less.

3. Qantas, I know you know I love you, but priority boarding only works when you make a call over the PA and then enforce it.

4. Qantas CSM's when you approach your P1 pax why not try asking them if there is anything you can do for them? Or even better try to notice the jacket they are holding up in the hope it might be hung up somewhere. Alternatively just ignore what they have to say, talk over them and then give them a plastic cup and a cheap mini bottle of wine.

5. The Hilton Parmelia......LOL... $385 per night, LOL again. I wish I had stayed at the Crowne Plaza it was only $499 per night. Not a tip at all, just an observation, although double glazing would be useful.

6. Perth please move to the East Coast so that we can sort you out, and don't worry about applying for third world status because you are not quite there yet.

Not been a good trip so far.

:p

*I did get to meet the two loveliest young ladies I could ever have wished to meet at Europcar counter who furnished me with a brand new Mercedes something or over. Utterly delightful considering i hadn't booked and rocked up to avoid the 23,234 KM queue for taxis.

~ Oh and for the more literal, not that there is anything wrong with that, there is an element of jest in my post............albeit small.

I just bought my first house (about 9pm AEST last night). I'm excited, but we aren't bothering to tell my partners family. I don't know why. But his Aunt did a similar thing with a business and only mentioned it when she was selling it about 15 years later.. so we think we might do something like that too just for laughs.
It will be investment because we can't afford to live in a house we own yet. But it is going to have just over a 10% rental return, and hopefully the value will increase so after 10 years it is owned outright and doubled in value. It is in the country and didn't cost much.. but we are excited anyway.

The past 2 weeks have seen some very positive things happen. Little bit worrying as there's too much of the good and not enough of the bad

If things go pear shaped from here, you read it first here!

Good stuff. Must be the news I'm heading over that has been a good luck charm. Hehe.

I'd speak to an accountant to find out the best way to mininise your tax as you will need to pay tax on the rent you receive as it's income.

Where is the complaint about the Qantas lounge in Perth or is that for a separate thread.:p

As an international jetsetting DYKWIA .

Ive been wondering for some time - as DYKWIA is conveniently 6 letters - have you considered getting it as a number plate? Would enhance your experience at the QF valet parking.....

Like this? :p

I have been so tempted!!!

At Perth Airport we use Quicksilver service to get in and out of the overloaded airport quickly.
Don't even dream of taking an early morning flight out of Perth as the congestion causes major delays that you can avoid by travelling later.

Thank you for the advice - I will an accountant :-).. its not much money each year because the cost of the property is so low anyway but will do :-)
Means a few more Qantas Link flights for me though

Good thinking  At times in QLD we also have limited edition 7 letter/numbered prestige plates available..

Nice. Also suggest you check when it was built as the is capital depreciation available depending on the age of the house. Accountant will know all that stuff. But the usual thing is to get a quantity surveyor's report.

10% return is pretty darn good, without a capital depreciation deduction I'd estimate that puppy is going to be income producing.

Now permanently available but most of the logical plates are gone.

PS I did see "WP" driving around the other day.

I am just guessing the percentage because I once said to a real estate agent for every 50k of sale price I want $100 in rent and his reply was so you want 10% most people are happy with 6% if they can get it. I said I don't know about what your referring too all I know is thats what I want.

I found a house where they accepted an offer just under 118k and the rent is $250 per week. So I am happy.. sorry to mislead if that is not 10%.
The house is in the country so I am also not sure about when it was built but I will do as you suggest :-)

Thanks!! I am super excited and had to tell someone... so thank you for taking the time to offer advice and suggestions!

That's sort of easy. Annual gross rent 250x52=$13000/118000 = roughly 10%. The house I recently sold, also in the country, was on about 6% when purchased and about 15% gross when sold.
