I hope you haven't been reading too many posts from Johnk, look on the bright side please.
Hey! If there is something positive to post I will post it. In the mean time I will continue to be realistic about everything.

As if I wished my flights were on time that they would magically start to be on time....

Are you implying that it is impossible to have reality with any kind of positivity in it? Whilst the polar argument is certainly incorrect, I don't think its complete absence is correct either, let alone the "status quo" or "safest base".

When you are back from your overseas trip, I will loan you this book.

From wiki.

The Secret
is based on the earlier film of the same name that was released in DVD format in March 2006. The tenet of the film and book is that the universe is governed by a natural law called the law of attraction which is said to work by attracting into a person's life the experiences, situations, events, and people that 'match the frequency' of the person's thoughts and feelings. Therefore, positive thinking and feeling positive are claimed to create life-changing results such as increased wealth, health, and happiness.

Not at all.

But let's look at this scenario for a second.

Most of my flights are late/delayed. If before every flight I thought "My flight is going to be on time today" then I will realistically be let down quite a lot. If on the other hand I went with the thought "My flight is going to be delayed today, again" and the flight is on time then I will be happy. Just because I post about my delay experiences does not mean I am glum. I have come to expect my luck in this respect.

What people consider to be positive thoughts are nothing more than hope. And yes I am hopeful about many things but sadly reality says that is an unlikely event.

And then let's not forget how the definition of positive/negative differs with many people.

There's a lot more in life (including your own) than your Friday night flights, JohnK.

It's like saying if you hit the golf course and expect to hit 1800 over par every single time, you'd be happy. Something tells me that's being facetious.

People have a baby. That's a positive experience; that's new hope given to a child.

People get married. They express their love and hope for a happy life together.

People graduate from university. They stamp their authority as having achieved significant knowledge. They hope they can translate that to a job and a better life.

People move to another country in search of opportunity.

If you were to denounce all of these as just hope, and positive reality does not exist, then.................

As fallacious as you may think it is, hope is sometimes is all that sustains a person's existence in this world. Your forsaking it would condemn many people to death for daring to think. It is far from being a figment of non-reality.

Have you been watching me play?

Maybe someone thought they should have used protection.:p

Possibly just to get a green card.

Possibly they were trying to fail and miscalculated, now have to say goodbye to the gravy train.

People move to another country in search of opportunity.
And found out it was the wrong move:shock:

See it is possible to denounce all of these.

Everyone of us is different. We see and interpret things quite differently. One should never expect another person to think, behave or have the same ideals as we do.

Good stuff. Must be the news I'm heading over that has been a good luck charm. Hehe.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using AustFreqFly

Well, finally found a hockey club (a hard thing over here, they're all oversubscribed!) so chuffed about that. Had my first training session in 2 years and it brings back a painful reminder of how much "love" my hands used to cop ;) Put our place on the market a few days and already have 3 viewings, which is not bad considering the photos/ad hasn't even been done yet.

Well.. I can tick 3 of those 4, maybe with the 4th soon ;)

That principle works the other way, too. We may not expect everyone to always see positive, but to denounce to others that their positivity is far removed from reality is also bad. (In other words, you are trying to expect other people to believe that positivity and reality cannot coexist.)

Fair enough, I should state that you, like JohnK, probably don't subscribe to my point of view either. Hey, I'm not completely positive thinking all the time, but I still believe positive reality still exists. And I'm arguing that not only is that something I feel no one can take away from me, but that it's a perfectly valid and arguable viewpoint to hold.

I'd like to think I'm not the only one here who shares the same view. I hope (pun intended).

And drron, I think your comment above is too self-deprecating. There's only one thing wrong with your playing golf, and that's the shorts you wear.

I know but at least it provides humour for some. ;)

It's like saying if you hit the golf course and expect to hit 1800 over par every single time, you'd be happy. Something tells me that's being facetious.
No. I expect to break 90 every time and occasionally I will break 80.

And it is not always negative. And what may be negative to you is not necessarily negative to me.

I still remember last trip playing St Andrews in Rayong. Heavy tropical rain and we waited ~45 minutes before teeing off. Still raining though when we hit off and I was 6 over par after 4 holes and feeling down. Never gave up though and managed to shoot 1 under for the last 14 holes and finished 5 over par and a 79! Never would have thought that possible but that is what can happen when you persevere.

And yes there is a difference between positive/negative and perseverance, stubborness, will to succeed, will to do your best at all times even if you are slightly down at the time.

If you were to denounce all of these as just hope, and positive reality does not exist, then.................
Did not denounce hope. I believe hope is good and there are some good stories close to home.

As fallacious as you may think it is, hope is sometimes is all that sustains a person's existence in this world. Your forsaking it would condemn many people to death for daring to think. It is far from being a figment of non-reality.
I wouldn't want to do that to anyone.

yeah i noticed that but my last post in travel taboos said 99 !!!!
You are posting in the Playground and posts here do not increase post count.

So need to find a thread away from Playground....

Not at all-did you miss the smillies.Just suggesting thst not everyone would see your examples as positives.

I certainly wasn't positive re my life until ~22 but then I made myself change.gave myself certain challenges and fortunately succeeded. My outlook is generally positive.I would never let any one lose hope though sometimes that can be hard.

I'd like to think I'm not the only one here who shares the same view. I hope (pun intended).

Now that is below the belt! But I do bring it upon myself.

Did I say that the positivity of others is so far removed from reality that it is bad? If that is what you interpreted then apologies.

And it would be good if we all lived in the same reality. It is sad that you can have 10 people looking at a scene and each one would interpret it differently.

OK. So which one of you was it? Upgrade to premium economy exit row window at check-in!

What a great start to the trip....
