Not saying what you're doing is wrong, but want to know more detail (sorry for the naivety, just not sure what you mean by the writs).

The Electoral Commision cant do anything about voting until this is done. The EC then set a date for opening pre -poll and post votes. So if you are already overseas before this then you have no problems. It has happened several times to us and no fine.

Gillard has stuffed up again with this date. There is a scientific forum with no topic details announced at about election time. But first week of October would be better with something pretty good in Vienna. Otherwise, a Fukushima tour and such like in June.

Well the writs are issued after I leave the country so no pre polling and i am in the Canadian Rockies on Election day.So dont have to vote for anyone.
