Triple status credits on Virgin Australia

Flying MEL-OOL return business 240 points, which will maintain gold. Wife and I will be flying to Europe and back in Etihad J, so Platinum will be well covered. Jeez, it’s hard work doing it on my own dollar after a couple of decades of company funded flying. But have somehow managed to keep gold and platinum since Velocity launched. it would be nice if such loyalty was rewarded…….

Look at your credit card spending as well. Velocity credit cards and Flybuys can assist with VA SCs. You have more time for research now!

You seem to not have great experiences flying VA anyways, probably better to let the status drop and try out other airlines for a refresh!
This might seem to suggest I have unreasonable expectations… but in reality it’s just an outcome of the sheer number of flights I did. If one in 5 flights had a problem with the IFE, that’s 20 flights a year. If one in 10 had a crew member experiencing an off day, that’s 10 flights a year. If one in 4 was delayed or cancelled, that’s 25 flights a year.

It’s a real problem for VA unfortunately, and not something fixed by triple status credits, for me at least. All VA had to offer was service recovery, which they haven’t got quite right yet :(

Thanks. I’ve factored in flybuys, and status credits for credit cards seem to have dried up. I’ve decided to do a status run to Sydney with my wife in J before the end of the year (worse places to go) which will tip me over to Platinum before my renewal date. This will not only mean F lounge access at Abu Dhabi, but that with the credits for two J returns to Europe I will maintain Platinum the year after. All due to this ultra generous triple status deal.

The TSC is a management strategy to boost cash and increase future loyalty (aka revenue). I assume service offerings and mishaps would be constantly reviewed as we all live in the real world, where not everything goes to plan all the time.

You have travelled extensively, and I am sure you have enjoyed many great flights. We can all choose to see the glass half full.

Just in case you need to factor in timing - the triple status credits offer applies to flights until July

Wondering if anyone has experience with using the fly ahead benefit on a triple status credits booking and if that delays the posting of the bonus or has any impact ?

Thanks in advance

Not Fly Ahead, but the day before I was due to start my trip I changed my return flight online and no issues with TSCs posting.

That is reassuring. I will find out in a few hours and report back. I have just now changed flight using Fly Ahead MEL-SYD. I need the bonus to (re)-attain WP & hoping it processes before Tuesday.

I suspect it’s attached to your PNR and provided the booking isn’t turned into Travel Bank or the flight moved out to beyond 31/07 (when they’ll stop running the script on new flights) I think you’ll be ok.

Just fyi, this is still an undocumented thing, but most days you can fly ahead on QF too especially on the golden routes. It's all on the app (you can do it even when the lounge says no). Usually says "to avoid weather" but happens even on blue skies.
Flew MEL-BNE a couple of weeks ago, no offer to fly ahead with the app and I asked at the desk if the 6pm was possible instead of the 7pm I was booked on. They did scan my boarding pass but said no due to the fare class booked.

Would rather be able to Fly Ahead to spend as little time at the airport as possible… on either airline… so lounges aren’t a huge issue for me
Same for me. But it certainly is handy when delays happen

just to close the loop on this and provide the data point - roughly 3 hours after landing on a booking where “Fly ahead” was utilised - all Status Credits posted - including bonus - and I am very pleased to see status updated to WP.

I’ve had one flight so far where I booked it and it added the triple however another one booked via corporate travel where it has not (and I’m not sure why…) even though the regular points/SCs have landed.

I have a few more corporate travel flights early next week so will report back.

@henrus when I called VA Bus I was told any bookings made thru VA Business portal are not eligible for 3* SC promotion as corporate travel doesn't qualify - I would love to see if you get 3* SC - please update

That was not listed anywhere in the terms and conditions and I'd be very surprised if it were the case.

Correct.
We don’t need the SC’s but all our flights are booked on the business portal and I booked a few flights for that bonus period so will keep an eye out just for curiosity

I know as I wanted to book through VA Bus portal but after what I was told I didn't want to take risk so I booked through my VA website instead of VA Bus Portal - please let us know if you get 38 SC on corporate travel
