Im just passing on the expert advice I was given when I was first starting out. Btw I heard USDM devalue in June 1st so be careful what you buy.

While I normally don't believe anything you say, I do believe a devaluation on June 1st is entirely possible.

I see that you've booked pretty much at the edge of opening availability. Very sharp!

Did you HUACA a few times and still couldn't get a stopover? Did you find the agents are less flexible then before?

yea i had to call a few times... just finding an agent that can see the JAL flights was a mission

like smit said it's not like it used to be, i also had agents tell me 'you are transiting in a higher zone so its 90k'

the agent that booked it said 'if you want to stay longer in tokyo you need to buy some more miles'

so i didn't push my luck and took what i could get, probably could of HUACA but i'm happy with that, mainly a flying holiday with 2 nights in hong kong and one in tokyo is fine by me

yep, keep in mind that the JAL flights aren't released as quickly as the CX

my GUM-NRT leg is on 1/4/15 - which i think was only released this week

Congrats! Great to see someone get one on the board.

This raises the question - are people still keen for GUM if the ability to stopover is gone? As much as CX J is amazing I'm not sure I can be bothered with a J flying holiday over the next 12 months, given how difficult they are to find and book.

Not really...it was always all about the stopover. Still, if you have the energy the 23 hours and 55 minute stopovers here there an everywhere could still be fun.

I'll reserve judgement on GUM til I've been but I suspect I won't be in a hurry to go back!

I'm with you on this one. Just too hard to book it now.

Gives you something to do while you're stuck in traffic or just bored at home/hotel. Free call on Skype and you can even hold the booking before buying the miles :)

Agree on this one, a lot of my USDM bookings have been made in the car, breaks up the journey! :)

I can't do it without a computer close by so I can verify what the agent is saying! But it's the JAL flight that makes it too difficult. Already done GUM on *A and experienced the *O premium products so I think I'll pass.

Hi all

I called USDM agent today and put on hold a return flight on CX J from SYD - CEB. Flight includes overnight in Hong Kong both ways which is not ideal yet I was quoted 45K plus $190 tax. I was expecting a higher points deduction for this. Anyone agree?

thx
sighing

should be 90k

Very interesting! There seems to be a trend of charging only half the number of points (I remember a recent post here where only 60k was charged instead of 120k)

Re post 106, (and the recent discussions) currently sat in the qantas lounge at bne international awaiting my departure. So far, no men with guns have ran in shouting "you only paid 60k for 120k flight"!!! Phew. On the negative, I'd forgotten just how average the qantas j lounge is in international. Even domestic leaves it in its wake.....
