Velocity/Virgin websites are RUBBISH

Hi, first time poster here :)

I found this site after trying to find if anyone had similar issues with the virgin check-in site; I'm heading to Canberra from Perth for a graduate program interview. When I go to the online check-in, it takes you to seat selection where you can just proceed through the steps without changes or you can make adjustments etc. However all of the links now have # on them, like there is some kind of Database error, is this a common error? When I try to proceed past the "dangerous goods" declaration it just keeps telling me there are "site issues". Have you frequent flyers experienced this error often?

Thanks for any help :)

Welcome to AFF.

I have seen "site error" although not for that reason. The VA website is littered with errors which they seem incapable of fixing (or perhaps just not interested enough to do so).

First of all - welcome to the site! :D I can't help you out with your error, as I can never get that far to the Dangerous Goods declaration, but is it possible for you to past a screenshot of your error? (Maybe blackout the pax name and VFF for privacy reasons). I presume you are already logged into Velocity with your VFF number or are using your Virgin PNR booking Ref number as you can see your seat. Another question is - did you book the flight yourself or not? And are you within the online check-in window of time (eg. Takeoff -48hours up to 40min before departure). I realise you may be actually in the air at the moment so may not be able to reply.

Hi,

I did not book the flight myself the Government department did, and yes i was within the 48hr window.:) However, I phoned Virgin Last night. I was told because i have connections PER >ADE >CAN and the site seemingly couldn't handle me checking seat numbers, it automatically created a boarding pass within the internal system, even though it never showed me the pass and i didn't even get to complete the process. From that moment on there is some issue with my "check-in" and the website, so now I have to go to the check-in kiosk at Perth and sort it all out.

Thanks for the warm welcomes :) Hope everyone is having a great afternoon.

OK - that is a new and different one for me, but not surprising. The connections PER-ADL-CBR shouldn't normally be an issue unless whomever booked the flights somehow got you a really short connection time in Adelaide or something else weird, more likely just a VA web site screw-up. You may be able to phone VA or the Velocity team (if you are a Velocity member) and get a seat allocated to you over the phone - if you have a strong preference for either aisle or window - just explain the situation to the call centre people. If its under airport control - i.e. close to leaving then you may have to check-in at the airport.

I'll prefix this post by declaring I'm a computer dunce, but do others get this when searching the VA fares?

I find I have to be very careful to ensure I'm actually booking am if I want am and pm if I want pm as the flights seem to display in random order. Is this just me? Is this a computer setting failure by me? or is this another VA bug!

I've have nearly been caught out by this previously. It is sorting them by cheapest fare.

Would wager it is a bug on the virgin website. It would take a lot of effort for a sort to be influenced by a user setting. Although some of the strange things i have seen developers do with time you can never be too sure :D

*edit* i stand corrected there is a sort field i have never seen!

It's sorted by price. Use the drop at the top left to sort by departure time.

Many thanks to all, I've never used that feature in the 15 million fares I've booked (give or take a couple).

I just always assumed most people would want to sort by flight times......I guess not!

Thats exactly how I spent an extra 12 hours in Mackay last Thursday.

Oddly the price sort seems to be on the Flexi fare not Saver. I did a quick check on MEL flights next week and all the Flexi fares were the same with a few lower Saveer Fares early and late and the sort was straight early to late time based

I just tried some dates in early October for SYD-TSV return and kept getting "we were unable to find flight options that exactly match your search criteria". I did this for several dates and kept getting this even after removing the promo code. I wasn't that exacting in my requirements - just dates - there are usually about 15 options per day and four ticket classes but to have zero must be a glitch.

That is a classic !

Funny thing is I think most people miss the tab... me included until about 1 yr ago

Warks

I just had a look at SYD-TSV and can find heaps of flights. 3rd, 4th October...every day returning 7, 8, 9

The funny thing is, the tab sticks out like the proverbial dogs b*lls when you know it's there. Goes to show that at I don't read cluttered web pages. Probably a study some up and coming uni student can do on that!

Yes it was all rather mysterious. I got no result with my first go and then I did get results for my second set of dates but after that I kept getting that message for any dates in October which I knew was suss. I've just tried again and the first dates I tried worked so it's a bug. But not replicable (if that's a word - should it be replicatable? Or repeatable?)

Anyone having issues processing retro claims on VFF site?

I keep getting errors and timeouts and none of the claims I've submitted are coming up in the 'Claims You've Submitted' section..
