Vinomofo Wine Deals

Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals - Squid Ink

Thanks JkandBr. What an excellent description.

When I went bargain hunting at my local BWS following a tip off from the DM thread there was some seriously cheap Ata Rangi 13 going, I did spot the 08s going for $55 a bottle. So you may not be too late to pick some up.

Went up to our local BWS this morning, but alas - no First Growth. Not surprising really as it's a relatively small outlet - we're on the Far South Coast of NSW. But they did have some clearance bargains that were pretty attractive, e.g. McWilliams Appellation Hilltops Shiraz for $13.05, Taylor's Jaraman Cabernet for $13.95, and Devil's Lair Hidden Cave Cab/Shiraz for $15.12. All quite a bit cheaper than DM's and pretty well rated wines, so picked up a few loose bottles. Thanks for the heads up!

You are in luck:

Mystery Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 (6 Bottles)

This mystery deal is the First Growth 08 for $55 a bottle. Unfortunately, the 20% code no longer works, but it's still 50% of the cellar door price. If you haven't used this code before, then try: Frenzy25. That gets you $25 off, so you might be able to pick up 6 at just over $50 a bottle.

Thanks, Wozza, Have just purchased a six pack. No joy with the Frenzy25, but $55 per bottle is just fine. Will open my first bottle in about 10 years from now, if Tyson Stelzer's review is anything to go by. Actually, he's a bit OTT:

Wines like this are the reason you don't read about spirallingly, ear-splittingly exorbitant First Growth Bordeaux offerings in Wine Taste Weekly. 2008 Parker is a cabernet blend of true First Growth endurance. Such is its wall of tannin that it must not, under any circumstances, be approached shy of twenty years in the cellar. Incredible power of blackcurrant and cassis fruit, with a fragrant violet perfume, underlined by dark chocolate oak, with nuances of black olives and black liquorice, this is a wine of tremendous concentration, with the structural assertiveness to maintain a brilliant line of linear definition, finishing crunchy and precise. The tannin profile is monumental, firm and mouth-evading, yet with a textural finesse that keeps it under consummate control at every instant. Don't miss one of the greats in the lineage of First Growth when it is unleashed on the world in July.

Is it really this good?

Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals - First Growth 08

So it's been busy here for the last week or so! A lot of reading to go through to catch up with the play. Not surprised they pulled the $100 voucher, that is a lot of money to be reducing stock by that is already heavily discounted and when people abuse it it gets ruined for others. Temptation is strong for some. A few of my friends got to enjoy the promotion, hoping to reap the benefits of a nice home cooked meal and some tasty VM wines to match!

One of my mates purchased a case of the Jones' Block Shiraz. Heard this is the business! I think it's time invite myself over for dinner and suggest a wine (or 3)...

Got my squid ink the other day. Haven't tried it yet. Gifted one to a mate for his Birthday, gave him strict instructions regarding doing it proud with a steak or roast. For me, I'm waiting for our kitchen to be finished so I can cook again. It's only been 8 weeks and counting - Not impressed with Masters! Would not recommend their services in the area of kitchen reno's…

That winery is in Middleton, just a lazy 40 odd kms south of McLaren Vale

I see.

If the grapes come from McLaren Vale, is it right to say that it's a McLaren Vale shiraz? Or would it still be a Middleton shiraz? According to their blog, the grapes were sourced from 3 vineyards owned by friends in McLaren Vale.

If 85% of the grapes that made up the wine were sourced from Middleton, then it should have been labelled/branded as Currency Creek. However as you stated, if the grapes were sourced from 3 vineyards in McLaren Vale, then that would be within regulations to label the wine as a McLaren Vale Shiraz.

Edit: link to SA wine regions.

I'm relying entirely on the information here: https://ulithorne.wordpress.com/2015/09/28/ulithorne-wine-spring-babies/

"And the ‘Familia’ (meaning family) Shiraz is a wine I have made from 3 vineyards owned by family friends in McLaren Vale"

I guess that's why they claim it's a McLaren Vale...

Beefarmer - one of these has got our name written all over it for that January meet-up ...

It's not quite the Fiji gift you asked for, but hopefully it is a worthy [99 Point] substitute!

Any others want to join us in Sydney for a catch up? I will create a separate thread to avoid clogging up this Fo only thread.

" Next to Kays Amery winery, the new Ulithorne winery and cellar door plans to be open to visitors by December 2014. In the meantime, guests are welcome to taste Rose’s French and McLaren Vale wines in their current Cellar Door, located in the the ground floor of their home on the South Coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula – The Mill at Middleton."
