On another branch. Where do you people come up with these mysterious discount codes? The only ones I've been aware of, are when VM themselves put up a code, good for a brief period.

CW Wines is a very inventive and organised company. When they take over other producers (eg Ulithorne, Cape Barren, Schild) they go on to release a raft of wines from vintages prior to the takeover which were never part of the range before the takeover. Either they were exceedingly good at buying failing producers that had heaps of great wines in barrel, tank or bottle or they drew on other reserves or purchases and released them under the labels they now own. All perfectly legal of course, but an interesting phenomenon.

I think it would be a little difficult to go that far back. With Reschke there was a huge amount in bottle, tank and barrel at point of sale. That looks like the original label/packaging, but CW seem to have excellent arrangements for labelling/packaging etc.

Or Colonial Estate is another - this time formerly made by a French winemaker, who then departed. Another unrelated one is Songlines. The difference with CW, is that CW tends to still be using the grapes from the original vineyards, as far as I can ascertain, and they make the wine themselves. Plus they know how to make good wine. But as you suggest, the RRP's & hence the discounts, may be opaque & at times, fictional. The other huge difference between the two I mention is that with 'GWD', you cannot have a clue who grows the grapes nor makes the wines.

After he moved on I still only buy very occasionally and very selectively, mostly the quite reliable Colonial Estate Sparkling Shiraz when at the bottom of the price cycle.. Your Colonial Estate mention is only a part of that story and not entirely accurate. Also Normans and Viking on the long list of their distressed label acquisitions.

Any pointers? After a "thorough" 5min research it looks like some reasonable offers but adding $15 shipping brings it close to market pricing

Hah ok - i've got my eye on the Glenallachie 10 but my shipping is $9.90. But free shipping and any discount would make it pretty sharp for a sometimes hard to get hold of whisky.

Yes you're right that my Colonial Estate summary is only part of the story. But the French connection was very strong, including Maltus bringing out equipment from St Emilion, and frogs onboard (Pauquet & Beziat), plus obsessive hands on, old school approach (supposedly replicating methods of the old country, but I reckon in reality, not a lot of producers in those overpriced, over lauded French appellations actually makes wine in this fanatical way any more. And good Australian wines often have more labour intensive love heaped on them, than many of the lauded $$$ Euro wines)

I bought a $90 rum this morning without code and for some reason shipping was free when I logged in.

Didn't see much that looked like good value - a google of many showed one could get it somewhere else cheaper than VMs crazy crazy once in a lifetime never to be repeated sharp a blahblah price.

I am thanking YOU . Great drop the Maxwell, such finesse and integration, simply moreish with a pasta dish tonight. So well balanced it is. But if I may say, and after I bought another 6 pack of the Patriti BSV for $89 delivered thankyou very much the Fo, I reckon the Patritti is better. Just sayin' not to be swingin' anything in the boys room, but these 2 wines take me back to the Fo of many years ago. I am a very harsh critic but I have memories here of Glenlofty and Amelia Park. In actual fact, I have a 2011 Glenlofty to go for Christmas as it was my brother who gave me a glass way back as he was an early Fo punter and I nearly fell of the chair, yes, that good. Ethereal is the word i look for and i do have to say it, the Patritti is ethereal. But you know my favourite drink is the next.......
