To continue the saga of the Virgin Money offer:
Statement day came and went last week.
"No statements available" was the online message.
Interminable call to VM - again, and promises that the statement would be activated and printed that day.
Nothing.
Another call the next day, and another promise.

Still no statement, although I could see the transactions recorded on the website. The lack of a statement meant that the bonus points and SCs would not credit to my Velocity account, of course. Before finishing the call, I asked (yet again) for confirmation that the points and SCs would credit, once the statement finally appeared

The response: "No, you do not qualify for this offer."
Despite having verified that all was in order in several earlier calls.

I located the original emailed offer and read it out to the operator.
Response: "You will have to send that to VM to prove that you are eligible."

I could have responded in many ways but exhaustion again did me in.
Only enough strength to write down the email address by that time.

Emailed.
AND received an acknowledgement WITHIN FOUR MINUTES and a prompt coherent holding response just a few minutes later.

[The Statement actually appeared the next day and points were credited to my Velocity account - but no Bonus Points and no SCs.]

The VM rep and I then exchanged emails over the following days to sort out all the links and today, points and status credits have all been posted to my Velocity account.

It has been an incredibly frustrating experience since the November offer - but the VM rep has saved the day. I've sent thanks and congratulations.
Will hope never to have to resort to the telephone call centre again!

Best of luck to any of you still going through the process.

I had the complete opposite experience.

My card was approved on 23/12/11. The card was sent on 30/12/11. I was overseas. I arrived home on 13/1/12 and activated the card that day. I spent the required $7500 by 21/1/12. Points, bonus points and 200 SCs credited on 24/1/12. I'm happy. I just applied for the Qantas Staff Credit Union Platinum Visa.

I recently had the experience of applying for one of these cards.

I am travelling business class HBA-BRU in April and was going to purchase the ticket with this card. The fare was about $7500. So instant 50000 points and 200 SCs.

I am a self employed doctor who is semi retired. I have never in my life been put through such a third degee as I was here in an attempt to get a credit card. I have no debt and I only work enough each year to cover my needs and keep my taxable income in the 15 cents in the dollar range, sacrificing any surplus to super.

I have Platinum ANZ QFF cards, a Woollies QFF card and a Diners business card all of which are paid up in full every month. However I was apparently a bad credit risk to them and declined, which I thought was quite bizarre as their credit card backer is Citibank who also own Diners Club. I have since bought the ticket with one of the other cards as I could wait no longer to ensure the flights I wanted at the discount price.

I have since written to them suggesting that they have a look at their assessment procedures as they were probably losing quite a few other potential customers in similar circumstances. Today I received a phone call saying that they had reassessed my application and and were unhappy with the way it was handled and were prepared to offer me a card. I was forced to decline as I could not see myself spending the money to get the points and I already have all my Virgin Flights booked for the next 4 months and my other expenses are unlikely to reach that level.

Your experience reflects mine, in many respects. I have had numerous Credit Cards over the years, although most of my expenditure in recent times goes through one card for personal expenditure and another for business. Several other cards are still active but little used. I cannot remember anything that approaches the incredibly inefficient, intrusive and almost offensive procedures that applied to this particular offer. My partner had a similar experience, also.

If enough of those of us who had bad experiences provide feedback, maybe management will actually put some of those "calls recorded for training purposes" to good use!

Interesting...I have never been rejected for a credit card til Virgin came along...I had several opportunities to ask them to reassess my application, but at the end of the day, I said "F... It"; in the time it took dealing with this bunch of idiots, I could have earned much more than the costs of flights 50000 Velocity points could have got me!

That's a shame, cause even after you get the card, there is still work ahead of you.

1) You need to get a bunch of letters. The card itsefl, your internet access code, your telephone PIN, your ATM PIN and your internet PIN.
2) Then you need to activate the card.
3) Then you try to set up an online account, by entering your internet access code, internet PIN and card number
4) Then discover that your internet access code needs to be activated, and despite the letter saying you can do this on the phone automatically, I ended up being transferred to the first available operator
5) Step 4 done, you can now create your internet account (yes, you set up another ID and password during this process).

I don't know who concocted this process, but I don't recall ever going through such a convoluted set of steps before!

Exactly!
and add to that, even after you reach the due date for the first statement, the "printing" of the statement has to be activated by an operator, I was told!

Tell me about it as I set it up for my +1....my +1 who earns, well lets say, a lot less than me:oops:, not only got approved immediately, they did not even ring her employer to verify her income etc:shock:.

But...my +1 does not know that I have set up her Velocity account to pool to mine so that all points / SCs credited to her account will automatically come to mine:lol::rolleyes:

I think I downloaded my first statement without hassle as PDF. Printing should work. Might have to check.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

Think that could be grounds for divorce!

The transactions on my account showed up on line from the first charge. But the "printed" statement (their terminology) must be generated before points are credited to the Velocity account.

My VM account continued to show an error message of "no statement available" some days after the due date for the statement.

A phone operator told me that she would initiate the statement activation. When I told her that I was still on line and that the error message was still coming up, she told me that it would take some further time after she activated the "printing".

I could actually print off the list of transactions - but needed the statement to generate the Velocity posting of the points.

Ah, I remember you mentioned that. I was referring to printing the statement, not transaction list, that had been generated once I got around to checking. Not get them to actually generate the statement. However, I was very surprised that it took about a week or more to receive my statement in the post.

A step too far! I can't imagine the ramifications of adding a mailing to the process!
Wonder how many people are already working up to cancel the card?

I got my points and SC's before i got a statement or anything.

I haven't received a statement yet but I have had a ph call saying it is overdue.

Statement issue is being sorted out.

I think that the whole process has been thought up by some idiot with the prerequisite tertiary qualifications and no experience in the real world. Would probably make a good public servant.

Ouch! Guess I'll keep my employer secret then ;)

Well I just paid our BAS statement so will see how long for the points to show up!

Did have lots of issues actually viewing the statement after the first month :)

Best of luck with all of that.
If you have been able to download a Statement, rather than only the transaction list, you have crossed that bridge, at least.
Others have reported here that their points posted quickly to their Velocity accounts after the Statement appeared, so let us know your progress.

I gave up half way through the application process for the Credit Card. Virgin Money makes Telstra look like Customer Service Champions.

Call Centre agent in the Phillipines told me a question I had about my application was too complicated and I would need to talk to someone at Head Office in Sydney. I asked for the phone number and they told me 'Sorry you cannot phone them, you can only email them'.

Gave up.. seriously...

Should you be feeling more optomistic today, it could be worth sending that email. My experiences with the telephone operators were mostly excruciating. In contrast, I had prompt and helpful responses to emails. So give it a go, if it's not too late.
