I gave up half way through the application process for the Credit Card. Virgin Money makes Telstra look like Customer Service Champions.

Call Centre agent in the Phillipines told me a question I had about my application was too complicated and I would need to talk to someone at Head Office in Sydney. I asked for the phone number and they told me 'Sorry you cannot phone them, you can only email them'.

Gave up.. seriously...
It's a bit late for these people to give up on the process as they already have their cards!

They are stuck onboard for a little while at least.

Wish you had put this on a bit earlier. I was given the number during one of my numerous conversations with them. Went out in the garbage yesterday.

If anybody ever asks me to recommend a credit card Virgin will certainly not be on the list. Any inducements would certainly have to be worth all the hassle. Actually just looked at alternatives. The Virgin cards only give 1 or 1.25 points max/dollar. AMEX cards give a better point value with double points for Virgin bookings with a 20,000 or 30,000 point bonus prior to Feb 29, although they are $100 dearer and no 2 for 1 flights. They do include free travel insurance. If you fly Virgin a lot then they could be better value in the long run.

Got a call yesterday arvo from this mob, previous only
contact was a call 2 weeks ago, that caller said all was good
and the application would be approved.

Yesterday advised them I dont want the card, waiting 2 weeks
is not on.

Great Customer Service Virgin Money? Not.

Have been getting phone calls from Virgin Money the past week or so, told them the same, don't want the card,
and ignored the other calls.

Today, get an email, your application has been approved.
Not a bad effort, 2 months after first applying, will ring them when the card turns up.
Interesting to see what they say about the points etc. Otherwise will send it back in pieces.

In an effort to chase those SC's needed for maintaining platinum, I have decided to re-engage with the call centre
First of many calls made today. Apparently they are still following up with my employer.
It's going to be a long wait I think.

My second month rolled over yesterday and I hit my $7,500 target this month, went and had a look at my statement online:

Points earned this period: 2958
Bonus points earned this period: 50,000

So it looks as though the promo worked for me. No sign of them in my velocity account yet ...

I'm watching closely!

Interesting...I have never been rejected for a credit card til Virgin came along...I had several opportunities to ask them to reassess my application, but at the end of the day, I said "F... It"; in the time it took dealing with this bunch of idiots, I could have earned much more than the costs of flights 50000 Velocity points could have got me!
So last week I got a call from them after not hearing anything back from them for over a month. I said I thought they had rejected my application, and they said they hadn't but wanted documentary evidence of my private practice income (claimed they had been trying to ring me for weeks to which I responded "bulls..t"!)....I told them that I no longer wanted the card and to cancel my application but he said I would be missing out on 50000 DJ points:shock:...so I faxed that information to them. Got a call again the following morning wanting a copy of my mobile phone bill, at which time I said this was the last thing I was going to fax to them, and to never call me again!!! Of course, the next day, they rang again wanting to clarify my name (those that know me know my name is not complicated!), at which time I asked what is happening to my application, and was told a decision would be made soon....I'm not holding my breath and I really wished I had NEVEr applied for this card. If (and a big if) I get this card, I will put 7.5K spend on it, and as soon as the pts post, I will ring and cancel it, ignoring the 4 "buy one get one free ticket offer.:evil::evil::evil::evil:

Let's see who gets appoved first, Princess!!

Yes, that's a really weird step in the process. When they rang me with THAT question - and it was only my first name they wanted clarified, they already had a thick pile of documents, all showing my name in precisely the same way.

But if it's any consolation. I think it was the last call (in a long series), before final approval. (Of course the registration and activation fun starts after that!
Pj

Used 2 for 1 to purchase flexi at a very good price then used Plat upgrade to Business, it is worth the hassle from that aspect:)

I've just cancelled my Virgin Money Credit Card.

They asked me why I cancelled them, and I told them that because they offered 50K bonus + xx_ status credits 2 months after I joined, and I feel ripped off by this, and given they told me "too bad", so I better off cancel it now and wait for next big offer from them.

Did they understand that message?

Pathetic application process and rude customer service agents. Needed to "mail in" my documents as part of the application process but was given an email from a CSA that didn't work.
5 x phone calls a day from the virgin call centre asking where my documents were and when i was going to send it. Sorted that issue.

5 x phone calls & voicemails asking that i call them urgently. Called them and they wanted to clarify my name was actually "josh" because in my documents im listed as "joshua"

They started calling the front reception desk of my employer and asking how much money i earn a year. The CSA then gave up and said i didn't need to provide evidence of employment.

one week later, 5 x missed calls again from Virgin who were asking who they could speak to in my company to confirm my employment.

Honestly, is a trained monkey running the show ?

Regardless of whether they understand the message they are not going to do anything about it. So "too bad" I cancelled and wait for next big offer from them.

In cases like yours a formal complaint to the Financial Services Ombudsmen would be the correct action.

If someone called my reception and asked about my income I would be PISSED

Not really funny in my opinion. I have an issue with the financial services companies in Aus in general. I think they believe they operate above the law.

Not too long ago I had a DEBT RECOVERY AGENCY contact me regarding an outstanding debt to Vodafone. They are a licensed company in Aus yet refused to send me something in writing.
Was not long before I made a formal complaint and soon found out it was not actually me they were lookin for.

Point is. Financial Service Providers in Australia believe they can get away with murder.

I find the whole "call your employer to check your income" thing ridiculous. As everyone knows, the privacy act means that even with your permission your employer can't technically release those details. I spoke to my payroll person who told me with a laugh that "to help out, in these situations, we just confirm whatever the employee has said on their application" :)

edit: and btw, the 50K points and 200 SCs credited yesterday, a day after the statement was issued where I hit the $7,500 required spend :D

I totally agree with you. Apparently there is a huge discrepancy between what I put as my gross earnings per year and what my employer has faxed to Virgin Money. I tried to point out to them that someone, somewhere has made a mistake as last weeks pay slip has YTD gross income ( with 5 months of the financial year left) greater than what Virgin Money has so far verified my gross annual income
