Changes to QF lounges in Singapore

Quick report after my visit last night. Doesn't seem like reno work has started yet although there's no hot water for the shower in the temp sapphire lounge. The water temp is warm though. Ice cream is available. And since all J pax are in the other lounge it wasn't crowded at all. Definitely the lounge of choice for now, at least until the reno starts.

The Reno work might not actually involve much of the area occupied by the existing lounges. I'm thinking expansion in overall area.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

The water temp is warm though.

I'd say that the water temp is always at best warm at SIN. It is a tropical country; very sticky outside that terminal, and not as air conditioned as you think inside (or, very air conditioned, like a lot of the Chinese Singaporeans like it).

Not sure if warm water qualifies as "no hot water".

The only other showers I've tried at SIN are the ones in the SIN SilverKris lounges (yes, the good SQ lounges, not the KrisFlyer Gold lounge, which has none!). The one in the F section at least does have hot water, though I think I found myself turning the dial further to the left than I would at home*.

* Safety message: take this with a grain of salt. Always test the water before getting under the shower.

The main problem I have with showers is the room gets too hot, so that I'm dripping by the time I get dressed. As a result I almost always have a completely cold shower and have to race to get out without overheating. The only lounge I haven't experience this has been in the DJ SYD T2 lounge and maybe QF CNS.

Given we are all speculating, can the next person through SIN ask staff what the plans are

You think you are going to get confirmed facts from lounge staff? I will refer you to the lounge access policies farce for obtaining facts from lounge staff. Great service, yes - facts, no.

Don't be silly. Why ruin a perfectly good thread with facts.
True ... however IMHO any redevelopment without increasing overall capacity would be a waste of time/opportunity/credibility.

Since the Newsonising of the SIN FLounge was first announced some time ago I have always been considering that underutilised area at the top of the escalators as a prime location.

Time (or a squiz at the plans) will tell. :D

interesting will be in SIN morning 4th July then afternoon of the 6th July, will see what I can find out? I may just go to CY lounge by the sounds of it?

It does. The sign was up saying "no hot water" when I used the J lounge (old F) showers, and it was still warm, which was more than enough! When I had a shave at the basin though, that water was scolding hot.

I've always found that with the SIN showers too, however for the first time on Wednesday (last week) used the old F lounge showers, and for once didn't get that, nice touch. I then used the old J lounge showers (the ones I'm used to using, that have this problem for me) and deliberately had a cold shower, and still came out sweating. In that regard, the old F showers are much better IMHO.

This somehow reminds me of the "Asian style hot shower", which is basically a cold water shower but you bring a jug or bucket full of hot water which you've boiled outside the bathroom (e.g. in a pot or a kettle).

Of course, this kind of shower is the type where you have a big basin filled with water and a small hand held scooper, and you use the scooper to pour the water on yourself. Probably not ideal for an airport lounge :p :D

Does that area overlook the apron/tarmac? If it does it'd be a huge improvement over the current view and might brighten the place up a bit... with regard to the old J lounge anyway, never been in the old F lounge but will shortly!

OK so this week in the lounge of the Singapore Hilton has been a BA staffer. The lounges are being extended according to him as from BA's point of view they will need extra space when BA starts flying their A380s here.Appears SIN will get them first.

Lets hope those low hanging F/J classic awards with BA get super-sized into an A380:D

IIRC, No. This is an area that overlooks the internal area of the terminal...

I've been wrong before, but I think the open area at the top of the escalators overlooks the apron, with C15, 13, etc on the LH side looking out the window.
Certainly once you are in the J and F lounges you overlook the checkin area downstairs.

Ok, I admit it, most times I've visited the SIN Flounge "I've been as full as a tick" but, I'm still thinking you go down the escalator, do a 180 & walk into the main thoroughfare of the terminal. So you would definitely cop a view of the casino like carpet.

I'm willing to concede that you probably do get view of the apron when standing on the upper floor so you are probably correct! Will be a pleasure to find out for sure in 6 or so months.

I would wonder how the comparison would go if we have a discussion on Wing/Pier vs SYD/MEL F lounges...
Yes and you already know the answer. ;)

Moving thru Singapore in a few months time on the way to London on QF1

As a Qantas Platinum Member, am I able to use the CX Lounge? It sounds like Qantas Lounge(s) will be a bit of a zoo!
The Skyview lounge is much better when the Qantas lounges are busy.

There isn't a stand alone CX lounge in SIN. CX use the Skyview lounge in SIN. Access to this lounge is restricted to OWE//OWS and CX premium flyers flying on CX. An invite is provided when checking in at SIN.

Skyview lounge is not a Oneworld lounge.
Are you sure?

SIN Lounge

And then click through Lounge Admittance and Oneworld Frequent Flyers.

And from memory the staff wear CX uniforms.

Isn't that called camping?
