New AFF Website

Absolutely agree, has no design element, heading is awful, site is bland and so much wasted white space etc. "if it ain't broke don't fix it' rings true in this case, I suggest go and have a look at this site and forums then "if" AFF wants to enter the modern era follow suit. Me too very disappointed at this big step backwards, so for now a casual browser.

While the phrase "If it ain't broke..." has credence, if everyone always thought like that, innovation would be a swear word.

I also went to the Stereo forums you linked and I can't see how it is better than AFF according to the points that you raised, including the point about whitespace. The possible exception is that the Stereo forum colour selection has better contrast than AFF (and thus more readable). It also helps that, it seems, almost no one (or no one) on Stereo has (or is allowed) a signature (saves considerable space per post).

But that isn't a forum but a usual website promoting a sales channel and secondary forum? I do agree about the contrast though. Some things here look almost shadowed out. And I suspect the above forum has a lot of paid advertisers. Just a guess before I get jumped on for speculation. ;)

The open to edit signatures doesn't exist where the guide says it does (under 'personal details' and before 'contact details' when hovering over the icon at the top).

Based on the other links I tried to guess the 'signature' link as https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/account/signature, which produces this error: "You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action."

I'm an AFF Gold member, so I don't think the issue is because of membership tier.

Thanks for the heads up @TheRealTMA. I was just about to launch into a big TR. I might give that a miss.
Yes but what's the answer? Does it or doesn't it? On iPad for w/e so can't check.

Shouldn't stop you posting an unmissable TR though! There are simple methods to strip metadata at your end.

Hopefully the mods chop in to let you know. I asked this earlier - snipping off the bottom sliver of photos is the method you mean?

It's not but your home GPS coordinates are.
Fair enuf!

Fair enuf!

I don't know if that works by resizing. Will do some tests when back in the office tomorrow if I'm bored.

Amusing the CIA wait for ISIS members to post Facebook photos to get the GPS coords to use for drone targeting... :)

Probably not an issue here for that reason.:)

Gradually getting accustomed to the new site. Some upsides, some downsides.

The colour scheme I think could have been made stronger. It's rather 'bleached'-looking throughout (eg. I'd prefer the text a few of shades of grey darker - full stops/dot on i are bordering at the limit of visibility - even on my big-screen desktop). Quoted text is especially pale. I think quoted text should be about the darkness of the real text, while that needs to darker. The white space does seem excessive and adds to the overall 'washed out' look.

More clicks/mouse actions are needed for common operations. That seems retrograde. A shortcut top right to replace 'Watched Forums' with 'Watched Threads' is a must IMO. Having to drop the 'Community Forums' list and then choose 'Watched Threads' is clunky.

I'd still like to see the option (unless I've missed it) to have the latest post in a thread at the top of the page, rather than having to scroll to the bottom - although, admittedly, it does land you where you left off.

My signature links got scrambled in the change but I can't edit the signature. I assume that's yet to come.

One good thing from here is no more annoying Ads :)

Well, if you’re a Silver/Gold member there aren’t. If you’re not, there should be.

The permissions probably haven’t been set correctly. Main focus yesterday was to open the doors.

My signature links got scrambled in the change but I can't edit the signature. I assume that's yet to come.

We shall get to this ASAP.

If I could post a big thumbs up to all this, I would. :)

I wonder whether it would be possible to create an Issues list of things that are still being worked on. @Admin @samh004
I would have suggest a Wiki attached to this thread, but that in itself is seemingly currently problematic.

On the whitespace issues I dont really see the problem, but some (hopefully simple solutions) would be:
* Delete some of the 4 lines below avatar in full screen view (# posts is the only one I'd keep, date joined, thumbs and location less relevant)
* Combine the Report/Quote/Reply bar with the Voting Bar

I find the bleached small font hard to read. And, agree the white space is a waste that could be used for the font size increase if possible. I tend to want to try to grab the edges and stretch it to increase what I can see. I think people will start to miss things.
It seems to be designed by people with perfect eyesight. o_O

I have just looked at the site on my iPad. It looks considerably less bleached on the iPad than on the large PC screen.

I guess it's the way of the world that mobile devices dominate the design of sites.

I imagine it also accounts for the seemingly excessive white space. Room needs to be left around buttons and links for finger-tapping.

I do the vast majority of my AFF stuff on my PC with a large screen, on which the new version does look less than optimal IMO. But I suppose I'm in a minority in that regard.

I almost no one (or no one) on Stereo has (or is allowed) a signature (saves considerable space per post).

There is no innovation to this update period, it wasn't broke it just needed a modern update but this has gone backward, its now bland, faint and plain ugly, a real shame. Signatures of SN members are in top banner and allowed for commercial customers at bottom after text posting.

It was broken for those who post on mobile devices and the app wasn't working properly.
