For those BNE based like myself, this might be a good option which keeps the ancillary costs (like accommodation and paid airfares to reach the originating ASA port) to a minimum.
I spent the last week looking into the most effective ASA which balances cost, points and aircraft type (I much prefer wide bodies) and came up with the following ASA in business:
5 July: BNE-SYD-PER-KTA (Karratha)
6 July: KTA-PER-SYD-BNE
Points: 72,000
Cost: $323
SC: 360
Point: ~15,000
The itinerary includes QF581/582 for SYD-PER rtn, with the obvious 744 benefits over the usual configs on the route. The only additional cost is one night's accommodation in Karratha.

I've not been able to find a good ASA SYD or BNE to LAX return even a year out, points required are ridiculous.
thanx, was looking for JASA.
The thing I've noticed in pursuit of jood JASAs is that they are most easilly available in the week or two leading up to the flight date, rather than a long way out. At least this applies for my segments.
Keep your eye out - two weeks ago I scored a MEL-SYD-BNE-LAX JASA for next April at a cost of 128K QFF and $380.Domestic yes, but SYD/LAX/SYD JASA usually around a Million points to start with.
