So a few thoughts on the passing of Her Majesty.
When at school for the first 2 years we started the day with the singing of God Save the King. Yes I am that old. We would then sing songs such as Rule Britannia, Ther’ll Always be an England or Britannia Rules the Waves. We were British to our boot heels.

Some of my family took the 6 weeks on a ship to see the Coronation. Feels appropriate that my sister and I are here for her funeral.

Here in Wales most are mourning the Queen. Many are also paying respect to the new King. In the UK the monarchy will continue.

I now have another claim to fame. In 1984 I had a meeting with the new King. It lasted nearly 10 minutes as he had to wait until Diana caught up to him. We talked about nature, conservation and my ability to talk to birds. His last words to me was to have enjoyed talking to some one at one with nature. Prior to the meeting I was a republican but became a monarchist.

Watching the ceremonies on the ABC. Although the formalities have been laid down for years, they would have only had a day to get their act together. A few long pauses, but pretty amazing.

Come, come. Tradition? Who cares. :)
There was a lighter side to the signing of the proclamations at St James' Palace. A number of current and ex-staff were exchanging quips about the pens, the ink well, the size of the table selected and the tray of spare pens that have to be moved (each commentator had a candidate for who was at fault). But on the serious side, apart from a record of the form of words, there were very few pictorial reference points to enable the conduct of the ceremonies in public.

That is indeed synergy. We are in London for the last week of May 2023. The Monday is the 'current' Public Holiday for their Queens Birthday. This year that was the weekend for the Queens Platinum Jubilee which we saw. We are wondering if we will have the same synergy and be in London for the Kings Coronation.

I do find it kinda odd that the ABC, with 2 channels - regular ABC, and ABC News - is showing identical (wall to wall QE2) programming. 🤷‍♀️

They do it all time when there is a 'big' event somewhere eg bush fire, after thinking about it I suspect not everywhere in the regions has access to ABC News hence their obligation. (but they could still run the normal news channel normally!).

Monday 19th September will now be a one-off public holiday in Australia for the funeral.

Unless you're in payroll and its a pay processing day 😒. Even if banks closed and you took the day off, my guys will be "where's my pay" 🤔

Couldn't it be a scheduled bank transfer; time-sheets, if used, cut-off the week before?

In ancient times, pay-day used to be Thursday. In Kalgoorlie, the (illegal) 2-up game wasn't run on Thursdays, to give home the first grab at the pay-cheque.
