The AFF Scavenger Hunt II [*NOW ENDED*]

Find! (item 18)

I think I have number 18, which is a train going to an airport. The first train I took today, Sunday 4th July, happens to terminate at Manchester Airport. Luckily it said this on the inside and outside of the train.

This checks out with me. That's a find! Due to the date of the find, however, it will belong to Week #4 (so you won't see it yet on post #3 which will be updated soon).

As of this post, I'm rewriting post #3 which will then be sent to the Mods for them to update.

Week 4 has (already) started!

There are 17 items left to be found. (The status update doesn't include samh004's find yesterday, who might I add is another cap breaker this time). Since next week is the start of a new fortnight, the find cap will be raised by 1 again next week, but another time attrition penalty will apply.

Also, you may notice from the "reformatting" of post #3 that there is at least one AFF moderator who uses the computer-illiterate-friendly WYSIWYG editor interface for posting/editing AFF posts... ;) :p

Re: The AFF Scavenger Hunt II - Item 41

41- Dedicated First Class check-in area of a Star Alliance airline (i.e. not just a check-in desk cordoned off for First Class with a rug and rope)

BKK this morning.
TG 1st class check-in

I know that area very well, and it checks out. Found! Well done, Sickeningthud.

Find! (item 39)

With the commencement of week 5, can I claim find #39, Piece of bone chinaware made by Noritake on none other than JAL flight JL018, from NRT to YVR, on 26/6/10 (op-up from discount economy to Business Class :D)!!

It's good here! Found!

Good work Fantic125, although you'll have to wait for another fortnight to pass before you can find other items. At least you're the first sleuth to get the new cap breakers' badge, blue Sydney.

Week 5 has started!

Post #3 has been updated. Once again, since the mod who updated it uses the WYSIWYG editor, the formatting looks a bit off; sorry for that!

Since a new fortnight has started this week, the find cap has been increased to 5 items per member, but another time attrition penalty of 4 points has been applied.

There are 16 items left to be found; one of those remaining items has already been found by Fantic125 (item #39). The find rate has definitely dropped; remember there is a rule that states:
Rules said:
  • If a week of the game progresses without a single find, a random item will be removed from the list.
...
  • If an item is removed from the list due to nothing being found in a week, 10 points are deducted from the score.

Since Fantic125 has found an item this week, we're in the clear, but next week we'll see how we go....

I could potentially get number 35 in NZ next week, keeping the game moving without anything being deducted, though someone else would need to get something this week.

I could also get number 2 very easily, but Guinness is like destiny to me :p

The AFF Scavenger Hunt II

Bugger it. Someone else will have to handle next week.

Here is, hopefully, #2: a cheese plate with 3 types of cheese, 3 crackers and a dollop of quince paste.

Taken tonight at home. There is Cheddar, Blue (slightly off so I didn't eat it) and Parmesan, haha.

I have a photo for #4 Staybridge Suites (show the premises/hotel, not just the sign), but not sure if it's eligible...

Oooh...I'm going to be a cough on this one and not count it - the find stipulated (and this one I made sure to be particularly difficult on):
A cheese plate containing exactly three pieces of cheese (each piece is a different type of cheese), quince paste and three crackers/lavosh - exactly the contents stated and nothing else

Firstly, whilst there are 3 "pieces" of cheese there - one is a cheddar and two is a rather sad, science-experiment looking blue cheese - that's only 2 types. The other is parmesan all grated up - not a piece of parmesan (no, a crumb is not a piece, otherwise you'd violate the "...and nothing else" clause because there'd be too many pieces of cheese on the plate). The rest of the contents would be OK, but the find is unsuccessful.

It would also help if you took a shot of the whole plate (only if to verify that there is absolutely nothing else on the plate).

I hope you got rid of the blue. Would have made a candidate for an anti-air-freshener (viz. for "oderant" as per the film Monsters Inc.)

I'm going to give this one.

The Google Street View isn't very convincing of the presence of Staybridge Suites in Times Square, but then I realised that this hotel only opened early this year, so no chance for Street View to catch up. As I read on, it turns out there are three major chains in a complex on the same street right next to each other (in fact, the premises are right next to each other with no gap).

The main reason I asked for not just the sign is because had I left it like that, there could easily be things such as: (a) someone photographing a letterhead or something with Staybridge Suites on it, (b) photographing a sign at an airport or on a banner, etc.

Well done Mal - that's another find!

The AFF Scavenger Hunt II

I'd like to resubmit #2 with some better looking Blue and a Double Brie replacing Parmesan.

That I will pay. Found! Well done samh004.

There are only 13 items left to be found now.

I really thought number 11 would have gone way sooner! But as I was at my regular hotel in Sydney this morning i managed to snap a picture of it!

Well done nlagelle.

Week 6 has started!

There are 12 items left to be found.

I have to say the amount of text (BB code and all) that goes into post #3 is getting big. I wonder why I'm not hitting the "too many characters" error yet. (Or I already have but the mods who can change the content of my post have executive powers to make a post which has > 7000 characters or whatever the forum limit is).

Next week will be the start of a new fortnight, which of course means the find cap is increased again, but a time attrition penalty will apply.

So someone still needs to find something this week to keep the game alive?

I know Bundy is coming down here on an A320 this week, so hopefully he remembers what to do onboard. :p

So someone still needs to find something this week to keep the game alive?

The game only ends when all the items have been accounted for, i.e. either they have been:
  • Found, or
  • Purged

But if no one finds an item this week, a random item from those remaining will be purged from the list, and a 10 point penalty will be applied.

That's what I meant. I have a shot at one this weekend. But cool that's good.

I haven't forgotten; I have a few other pictures in mind as well.

You would think that someone has based these pictures on someone who does a bit of travel. :p
