Dual passport? I guess it wouldn't hurt to have an Aussie one as well.

And Bunnings sells hiking boots? In going to need something for Iceland next year. Not full on hiking but leather with tread and support would be smarter than my Mary Jane's. And I'm talking Mary Jane shoes, not dope.
The kind of boots you need for the expedition cruises are just rubber boots as they are used for jumping into shallow water from zodiacs in wet landings. Your waterproof trousers go over the top.
For walking in Japan in Feb I had a pair of Merrell goretex shoes as I don’t like high boots. They were fine.

I have some Keens leather ‘waterproof up to the shoes laces’ walking shoes that I may just use. I really do not like wellies for walking more than a short distance and I’m difficult to fit in shoes due to a damaged nerve.

Same here, I prefer support plus I'm not jumping in let alone out of zodiacs. More for walking around, would like arch and ankle support and tread if wet and slippery. Hubby has proper hiking boots but he does a lot of walking, inc bush walking every day month.

Mr FM got his USA visa in about 3 hours in Dec and that was applying on a Sunday. I think they suggest allowing 3 days, but I have never had one take that long.

If you pay extra there is a priority service for passports as well - can get it in well under a week but it’s around $180 extra.

Tell me about it, about to get my passport renewed (cheaper at least, as it's only a few years old so I can get the cheaper one that will keep my existing expiry date - something they have now that the FT passport is gone) and have my appointment in a few days time ... need to head over to the US on business a few days after that, so getting slugged a fair whack (price is similar if I recall but the amount is in £!!).

@rainbowgirl, this sounds like an exciting first o/s trip ... whilst you organise the pp and then the esta (make sure you use the offical online Homeland Security site), also ask the fun questions of how to get the best deal. This where we come into, and for, our own AFFers.

Thanks for the offer. I'll keep you up to date. If I go I might pass through New York City.

Dr FM gave me a “Pilates for over 50s “ book some years ago and I do some of them as well. Very good for my back. With Tai Chi I went from a bad fall every few months to none - I think I was starting to stoop and it did wonders for my posture and centre of balance, as well as leg strength. I do like the relaxing feel to it as well.
Would love a pilates studio in my area but none around. Hubby goes to a great physio every week for Strength & Flexibility sessions and hes noticed an improvement but hes got to do his stretching homework.

....Maybe I should buy - if I bought some collapsible ones they could be good for the gorillas as well......

You won’t be able to use your own poles for the Gorillas. They will supply wooden ones for you.

Camera phone started taking blurry/cloudy photos a few days ago. Looks like some sort of condensation/stain diagonally across on the inside of the rear camera.

I watched some do it yourself videos. I'm guessing if you opened the camera cover then you'll need to replace it with a new cover? Anyone attempted to fix a camera phone themselves?

Stick the phone in a tub of rice for a few days and see if that dries it out.

Thanks. I need to use the phone but can leave it in rice overnight. I think worth a shot.

Worth a shot, but unless it is "just" slight condensation there is probably a mark now that will not disappear.

I’m back in the airport again after an aborted Qatar flight last night. Now have to route through Melbourne. Oh well. There is the F lounge.
