dyac! :-|

Oh stop blaming AC... we all know this is a carbon based error, not a silicon based one ;) :p

I received a credit card bill where if I paid the minimum monthly amount it would be fully repaid just before my 114th birthday.

Would be interesting to know how much interest you would've paid up to that said point

I celebrated Australia Day over here in style on the weekend! A group of people put on a party for me

Some are lucky. I ended up at Walkabout shephards bush. Very interesting (stayed about 3 hours from mid afternoon). Also visited Belushi Shepard's bush and Walkabout convent garden.

Scary, scary but in a fun way. One of the funniest things was seeing most people using Australian licences as id. Wtf? Are they that dumb to not realise that the Australian licence is not a valid form of id for proof of age purposes over here (btw they were accepting them)

A very close friend of mine was in the same situation about 18 months ago. She owed over $20,000 in CC Dbt with nab. Following my advice :) she went and spoke to nab's financial advisor. They looked at her whole situation, analysed her accounts, worked out where most of the money was going and helped her to understand her finances better.

They also cancelled her CC and set her up with a personal loan to clear it. As far as I know she is almost clear of that debt in total now.

Just guessing - I don't think Cove has that problem!

Ah... I remember doing that last year (or was it the year before... I forget!), I wasn't smart enough to have planned the day off work and arrives at the Walkabout SB around 8pm, took 1.5 hours to get in. Then proceeded to get my suit covered in beer by drunk hooligans who thought it was a good idea to swirl beer all over people......... ah........ Aussies!

Civilization north of Rockhampton now has access to the Magic Web again thanks to the good folks at Telstra.

That said - it's both an embarrassment and an unacceptable national security issue when our critical infrastructure such as Internet, phones (including access to 000), ATMs, EFTPOS, airport check-in systems etc fail without any redundancy due to a little water in a flood-prone area.

Oh - your house is on fire? Walk to the fire station to raise the alarm.
Oh - you've been bitten by a taipan? Walk to the ambulance station.

These are not acceptable situations and a major enquiry should be held.

A significant portion of blame lies with the federal government. Not only is the NBN useless and a monumental waste of money - but even worse - it actively disincentivises others (especially Telstra) from spending any money on infrastructure upgrades which will have to be shut down at some unidentified but imminent future time when the NBN actually rolls out.

This is not to make light of the challenges facing the folks further south - but it doesn't excuse this failure either.

Rant over.

Ps. Who is going to reimburse me for the CC miles I missed out on for having to use cash to pay for my Big Mac today??? ;)

We only do IN N OUT Burgers in California and the quality is way higher for a couple of bucks.
I think I had a Big Mac around 1993 or maybe a little earlier than that. Have I missed anything?
I got off Diet Coke and coffee in 1994 so I missed some Amex possibilities by dropping that rubbish.

I am a PAYE employee not a contractor or a business.

So am I. All travel expenses from workplace to another place of work (like a meeting) to home are tax deductible for PAYG employees. I try to schedule off site meetings for the afternoon on the last day of my work week. My travel from the meeting to home is then deductible, including miles in the car.

A PAYE employee can also have their own legitimate businesses "on the side" so to speak. I have discussed this before.

I might have to discuss this if I ever meet you again.

Did anyone watch the cricket, exciting finish in the Twenty20 game with Australia losing to Sri Lanka, with 12 to get in the final 3 balls, Australian batsman Glenn Maxwel hit 2 boundaries in a row but couldn't make it a 3rd boundary so Sri Lanka win the rain delayed match. I still prefer the old system where you had the 3 teams playing the standard one day over game with 50 overs a side, but I guess some cricket is better than tennis or the Queensland floods.

I wonder how many of the folks who had "fun" driving through the foam on the coast will be having "fun" when their car literally falls apart in 6 months time from salt corrosion?
