David Jones: AMEX to Latitude

Got the additional cards today, with the more frequently used one having a longer expiry date compared to the least-used one. No sign of the primary card ...

does anyone know how many points one needs for a $100 DJ gift card (as an example) using David Jones Points Hub?
Nope. Received my Prestige card today, added it to the Latitude app as it asks and followed all the instructions given, and you can’t do anything with it, as although the card account shows it just says “Active in 9 days” “Activate your credit card now to be ready once your account is transitioned” and you can’t otherwise do anything. Even the big “Welcome to your David Jones credit card” banner in app does nothing.

I’m so screwed because I can’t get hold of them to help me out with the membership rewards points because all the different dates they communicated confused me :(

Does anyone know if we can use the new points to buy a generic Mastercard gift card instead of all the other cough like DJ gift cards and whatsoever? I don’t want to purchase a gift card just to be forced to use the $$ in a specific store.

Amex did state in the “Important Notice about your David Jones American Express Platinum Card” (I assume the name was slightly different for the standard DJ’s AMEX card and Storecard) email/letter that you can no longer redeem Membership Rewards points for digital gift cards as of the 13th of June and all other redemptions from the 1st of July, and they’ve never offered a generic gift card for redemption. Can’t say if Latitude do offer generic eftpos/Visa/Mastercard as they don’t show their Points Hub however until the 14th when everyone is transitioned, both online and in their app. I doubt they will though, as the Points Hub offers square in the Latitude app specifically mentions “Gift card redemption: Swap points for gift cards from your favourite retailers including David Jones”

It specifically stated in the “Important legal notice from American Express about changes to your current David Jones American Express Platinum Card” document that:
“If you are participating in the American Express Membership Rewards program, all eligible
purchases made on your David Jones American Express Platinum Card and posted to your account
will continue to earn points until 12 July 2024 9pm AEST. This is the day before your account
transitions to Latitude.
You may continue to redeem your points under the American Express Membership Rewards
Program through the following dates:
• Physical gift cards – up until 13 June 2024
• All other rewards – up until 1 July 2024.

It would, as yesterday 9 days from then is the 14th, when Latitude has said you would be able to spend on the new card. Other than knowing that 15,000 Latitude David Jones points is $100 to redeem directly on the DJ’s online store vs 20,000 AMEX David Jones MR points (as in Latitude is 5,000 points less than AMEX surprisingly) I’m honestly expecting most of the equivalent rewards redemptions are similar but unless someone who already has one active that wasn’t being transferred to confirm, the only other way of finding out before the 14th would be calling Latitude directly on 1300 550 006.

Personally though, it doesn’t bother me as it’s not my primary card, so as long as there’s a decent 100% confirmed airline partner (not just a half answer from a DJ’s chat rep) or a hotel partner that’s fine.

Got the primary card today. They want $99/year (was previously fee-free for life), so won't be activating it.

That was a good nine years where I had it fee-free; will miss my DJs Amex (it was my first one)

Latitude told me that If you dont want the Latitude card, you need to cancel your DJs Amex card by the 12th so that you dont migrate to Latitude. My understanding is that you could still be charged the annual fee even if you dont activate the card. I cancelled my DJs card a couple if weeks ago but still rang Latitude today to make sure I wouldnt be charged the annual fee. They put a stop on my Latitude account.

That's dodgy then because the wording on their paperwork clearly states an annual fee will be charged when a transaction is first initiated or something like that. Nonetheless, I also put in a close account request via the Latitude website. I didn't cancel my DJs Amex, but I did stop using it and cleared my balance and points once the new billing period commenced early last month.

does anyone know what happens to paid annual fees on old DJ cards?

They closed my 28 Degrees account instead despite giving them the DJs Mastercard numbers ... Clearly did not read my reason for closing which was the high cost of fees 🥴

Edit: ended up cancelling via Amex as well this morning. Guess I'll reapply for the 28 Degrees card in 2025 ...

@kerfuffle I have the same annual fee issues. I previously was not charged a fee for the basic black card so I was surprised to see one on my new card pack and letter. The customer service team at DJs have been very helpful and they said there is no changes to the card fees and you can simply tell latitude to reverse it.

I've kept this card due to free/fast delivery and gift wrapping services.

Anyone else had any issues activating the new card ?
I'm in the app and the card is added, and there is a button for ACTIVATE CARD.
Which takes you to a page to enter the expiry date.
Then it SMS you a code to enter.
Enter the code and it errors out with box saying [It looks like we're having an unexpected problem.. keep trying and.. blah blah...]

Will try again tomorrow. Not a great start to the new experience.

Same issue this morning but if you click on the refresh button it should work.

Also they send you another code to enter for selecting the pin and each time the error page comes up. So i'm not sure if the pin registered or not.

Too late anyway. Closed it all. Haven't heard back from Latitude regarding closing my 28 Degrees either ...

The new experience doesn't work very well. I get 'something went wrong' messages at every turn.

That's unfortunate they closed the wrong card for you. So far the experience with the changeover has not been the best.

My supp has been unable to get through the contact centre all morning just to activate the apple wallet. They make you jump through the hoops to add to digital wallet. The supp is unable to register their own latitude login either as it says the card is already linked to the primary login. With everyone using digital wallets these day, its not the very best experience.

Don’t worry, the apparently better digital offerings from Latitude are the reason they moved to them remember (and definitely nothing to do with the fact that both the head of financial services and current CEO at DJs both previously worked at Latitude)? The same ones now meaning a supplementary cardholder can’t register online like they previously could with Amex.

Surprisingly other than the Latitude App and online not showing the cards available funds on the home screen like it does with 28 Degrees, it’s been fairly smooth sailing. Just hoping the pending transactions on the Amex before switch show up properly on the Latitude card once finalised, because those weren’t moved in the credits from Latitude on the Amex app. The David Jones Points Hub looks rushed even now, knowing they’ve had this agreement since February last year to be the card issuer isn’t giving a lot of hope it’ll be any better.

Same here. It's gotten worse today.. the experience.
When clicking ACTIVATE CARD in the App it now gets to the Exp Date screen and errors out with "Somethings gone wrong".

Using the in-app chatbot - as suggested by Latitude - results in a frustrating 2-3 minutes of canned responses, ignoring anything specific that I am typing, then that too eventually closes the window and dumps you out.

So they also say that new cards can be activated by logging into your Latitude Service Centre account on the web. Doing this results in a quick flash (half a second) of your account dashboard, and then the screen is replaced with "Ahhh... something went wrong. Please try again"

It gives me ZERO confidence that this company can in any way be trusted to responsibly manage anything financial or important. In 15+ years of dealing with Amex, I've never had any issues. These clowns seemingly cannot maintain a functioning website and app.
