This may not be good news for me. Last week I was approved for the CitiBusiness Gold card and have been thinking about applying for the Virgin card in the next week, or so.

I wonder how soon is "too soon"?

This is what my letter said:

Unfortunately we have to say no.

We're unable to offer you a Virgin Flyer Credit Card account right now. We understand that you've only recently opened a credit account. Before we can offer you a new credit account, we need you to have held your current one for at least nine months.

As Virgin Money's credit facilities are provided by our partner Citibank, the credit account mentioned may be held by Citibank or one of its other partners. We are unable to discuss any accounts that are not held with Virgin Money.

You can reapply once the required time period has passed.

I assume the "only recently opened a credit account" refers to the Citibank Business Gold Visa card I signed up for about five months ago. :?:

After a little contemplation and a read of this thread I decided no to question this!!!!!!! The 50,000 points would have been handy though.

Ok, so 3 days after being advised of success by telephone call, my on-line application still shows as cancelled.
Another 3 phone calls to the call-centre, they have no record of someone calling me to advise application approval. Apparently there is a discrepancy between my income and the info I supplied. They are going to call my employer to confirm some details ( I did point out that this is the same employer who refuses to give out any details on the telephone and requests must be faxed  )

I am beginning to think its probably not worth the hassle anymore. Will let the dust settle until after New year.

Virgin Money just called our Finance Dpt to verify information.

Yesterday I sent them: Copy of Telstra Cellphone Bill, Copy of Bank Statement, Copy of DL & Velocity Card on same page.

Let's see what comes out... I don't hold my breath. :p

Edit: That was Quick !!!
Congratulations. Your application for a VIRGIN FLYER credit card has been approved, and you now have a credit limit of $10,000. You will receive your card within the next few days, along with your PIN. So you'll be able to enjoy the financial flexibility and security of a VIRGIN FLYER credit card in no time.

Must say I am a little surprised at all the trouble others are having with this. I have a hell of a time getting credit applications approved usually because of how we distribute our income, but this one was unusually prompt. Really bizarre that others whose applications I would have assumed were much more straightforward have had difficulties.

Can only hope that things won't be this difficult when it comes time for the sign up bonuses to come through.

I have never had a credit card application refused, so this is new territory for me. :?:

To be fair, other than the repeated requests for info that Citibank already had, the application for the Citibank Business Gold card was straightforward, and the bonus points posted almost immediately!

Wow. I'm amazed by the issues people are having. Out of interest did those rejected apply for more than the minimum credit limit.

I applied for the minimum, because I just filled in the application off the top of my head and thought it best not to ask for too much. As it turns out, my income was overstated by about $10K because I counted a rise that isn't in yet. But they rang payroll and confirmed so I guess that worked. My debts were also all over the place, but I did use "don't include CC limits you intend to replace with the new limit" to good effect. Hand on heart I intend to cancel those cards, I just haven't got around to it. And I won't even mention my expense estimates. "oh you wanted electricity bills as well?".

Anyway, I was approved.

I'm in conditional limbo land. However, Citibank had sent me an offer for a credit limit increase on my actual Citibank card (for more than what I asked for on the Virgin card), and perhaps things have collided.

Haha.. love it medhead.
I do love the way they make you pledge you're telling the truth before hitting submit.

Surely it's not a crime to lie to them - the tax office sure - but not them??? Maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks. Of course, I would argue that true intentions that don't happen are not lies.

Oh and some expenses are non-core expenses. SWMBO would kill me but at the end of the day we could probably scrape by without payTV.

It is worth it. I had the same problem when I applied for my first Citibank card after I had signed up for one of the first Virgin cards with the free flights. Ended up getting it without too much hassle - IIRC they just juggled some of my credit limit between the two cards. It is the additional credit they see you asking for that can be the sticking point.

No problems this time around, and I'm pretty sure I've only had my CitiBusiness card for around 3 months (approved on 26/09). Admittedly getting that card took around a month and a half when they were trying to work out if I was self employed or not.

In this thread I have mentioned my numerous calls to Virgin Money:
In the letterbox today a letter ( dated 15/12) reading "Dear Princess Fiona, as we have been unable to contact you by telephone your application is being suspended blah blah etc etc"

Feel sure Carol from Little Britain has a new job :p

Applied via the High Flyer link posted here, got an email and call regarding sending in additional info, I refused as the email states that all the info can be achieved by contacting my employer. So they must have done all that and the card arrived in around 7 days.

Did notice the extra $90 pa fee for additional card holders that I'm not too happy about. I've never paid for additional card holders. Now to consider whether to dump the Amex Plat Charge and $900pa fee. If they do me a deal I may keep it. This card does seem to contain most of what I would use of the Amex charge, insurances are probably better with Amex though.

Anyone dumped their Amex Plat charge for this? Any regrets?

Hi DualCitizen,

Welcome to AFF. :D

I would need to see the insurance policy T&C for this card before going away from the Amex Plat Charge card. The Amex also has a free flight from the associated CC.

And points in AMEX transferrable to multiple airlines so you not locked in to VA - and VA recently had a 20% bonus offer when transferring from AMEX to Velocity - both Virgin cards - Virgin Money and Virgin Amex warrant uptake IMHO - but AMEX stand alone is also a must IMHO.

Thanks for the welcome.:D

I agree the multiple airline transfer is great, main reason I have kept all my points with Amex.
Points wise, if I went back from the Amex charge to just the Amex credit card (reserve (still includes free flight) or edge) , I only lose out on the transfer of pts to Qantas? Not a big deal imo.
I realise that the charge card has better everything, insurances, priority pass, etc etc, however I struggle to see the value (I'm currently not a frequent flyer atm, last year I was, different story) for $900pa. $500pa I think is a no brainer.

This high flyer card can add up if you have a few additional card holders @ $90ea, almost rude! I only really applied for the free flights.

I too applied. But have also had fun and games, but slightly different f and g to those reported.

Applied online and duly sent off requested extra information - by post!! Got an email from them asking for contact to verify income, duly provided and followed up same day. So far so good.

Then comes the call for clarification of expenses. Fair enough, I did make an error there. To be fair, each time the CSA called me I was unable to speak. They followed up several (n=7) times until I provided the correct information. Good work! Even got friendly emails, to the effect that I was conditionally approved, awaiting confirmation etc.

Finally, a young chap telephones me to confirm residential address. Now - here comes the clincher - somewhere the description of the street got changed from avenue to "link road"! They wanted something addressed to me at xx_ Avenue, to prove my address. Account, or some formal document. I use a PO box and never, ever use my street address for post. Despite explaining this several times, the request was pursued. Apparently in Citibank land I am the first person never to have post addressed to their residential address. We went round and round - time count 45 minutes - I was denied access to the supervisor, despite being on hold for increasingly longer and longer periods of time while all this was sorted out.

Eventually, I found a letter from ASIC dated late 2009, addressed to my home address. Despite being told that ASIC was not an acceptable source (!!), I faxed a copy off and voila, by return email I was confirmed and a shiny new card was its way - to the home address. Hmmm, note to self, check letterbox.

In the result, not as painful as others, but it was a very frustrating and long (n=75 minutes), final telephone call.

Now, to spend $7,500.

Have just been informed that I have met the requirements and points/credits will be credited To my account on my statement date.

Can I ask how you were informed of this. I have done the spend already and haven't been informed of anything!. Did you ring, or was it in an email etc?

Thanx

I was rejected because my application was too soon after my successful application for a Citibank Business Gold card. It all seems rather odd. :?:

I applied for both CitiBusiness Gold and Virgin Flyer on the same day (and yes I was aware that they are both issued by CitiBank).

They did ring me to confirm which application I'd like to proceed and I told them that I'd like to have both cards and feel free to split the approved limit.

They approved the CitiBusiness Gold first with a limit of about 15K and next day reduced it by 6K to allocate that amount to Virgin Flyer.

Received my 40K bonus points after first spend with CitiBusiness Gold and transferred it to QF. Now waiting for my 50K Velocity points and SCs.

darn wanted to apply, but i missed the 31st Dec 2011 cutoff
promotion hasnt been extended it seems

Would be interested in the answer to that question also.

I activated the card as soon as the documentation was received, did the required spend immediately (and topped up the balance again, for re-use), but neither the SCs nor the points have been credited as yet.

Have talked to Virgin Money ops a couple of times in the process of activation etc but the responses were uncertain, to say the least.

To be fair, the T&C statement is:
"Points and Status Credits may take up to 60 days after reaching the $7500 spend amount to be credited to the Primary Cardholders Velocity account."
However, I did tell VM in the most recent call that I had hoped to be able to use the points in the near future. The operator undertook to check the possibility of earlier processing and to let me know the outcome when she had obtained advice.

Will post here IF anything useful emerges. (Expectations not high, however.)
